Roll Over money after you Reach Elite Status

Status: Tell Us More

Currently if you spend $3,500 in a calendar year you reach Elite Plus status which is great. For example if you reach elite plus in 2014 your good until February 2016. I would like the clock to reset once you reach the $3,500 or have another goal that can get you another year of elite plus.

Rather than resetting the clock I would rather see Rewards percentage increase.

up to the first $3500 you make X% rewards

$3500 + you make X + 5% rewards

However, it should also be tethered such as if you make a single large purchase that gets you 7000 points and you are under that $3500 mark you still only get credit for the rewards based on the under $3500 mark.

If you make these kinds of purchases you should make sure you have a BB credit card. I just made a recent purchase and received 10% rewards.

Perhaps it would be better to offer better rewards to those to stay at a high level for many years.  I myself made Silver Priemer in the beginning and have been as such and now Elite since elite came along.  My purchase last week just put me over the mark for the 5th or 6th year in a row.

However, I am happy with the rewards I get.  It is a free program and the rewards help.  Keep in mind we want Best Buy to stay in business and evrey thing they do to reduce the profits is not beneficial.

What happened to Kudos? Anyway I agree with you guys on this. I really admire the Percentage increase idea as I was coming up with a similar plan for the employee stock purchase program. I thought I could start out with say, 3% to purchase stock in a calendar year. Annually, increase the percentage by 1%-3% based on promotions and raises. Why not do the same with rewards to keep customers empowered?

I agree with qualityman13, your purchases should roll over to the next year once you reach $3,500. Also, why does the dollar amount meter on your MyBestBuy page reset after Jan 1st? It takes at least another 15 days after your last purchase to show credit on the site! The meter should stay at least till the end of January so you can see if you qualified for next year after all your purchases threw December 31st! There should be a second meter that appears on Jan 1st to show your new progress and last years meter can drop off the site in Febuary when you have found out if you qualified for another year or not.

I only Kudo something that I think is good the wya it is presented. I understand why the originator thinks it is a good idea but I can also see BB's side as well.

Carrying over the next year does not really make good sense.  You could make a single purchase and be good for two years.  The big part of the program is to show customer loyalty not single item buying power.  Consisten loyalty not just one big purchase.

It would be like letting a player on a team who scored half the points and beat the other team by a significant margin that they don't need to show up for the next game, we will just carry over your extra points to the next game.

On the other hand, and it does not bother me.  But I have been a rewards program member and made the mark every year since I got on it.  I get rewarded for my loyalty by being able to stay in the club and get its benefits.  Some may not be happy that a One Hit Wonder gets treated the same as themselves.

I agree with this idea.  I spent $6000 in best buy last year and had to start over since the balance was never carried over. Hope this happens! Great idea.

For the last three years I've been at about 10K by the end of the year. What I'd REALLY like to see is some sort of bonus points for going double, triple and quadruple over Elite Plus status.

This is one of the times where I support both sides of the idea.  While I see where it would benefit the members of My Best Buy (and I've lost my Elite Plus due to hitting the limit and then not spending as much the following year when the previous expense would've covered that year had it been spread out instead of all at once) I also see where it makes sense for Best Buy to offer the yearly ammount as an incentive to utilize their services and make purchases from them.
