RewardZone - electronic process, no more printing certificates.

I for one do not like having to print out my reward zone certificates in order to use them in the store. New Process When I am at the register and the cashier scans my card or looks up my information, the system should be able to tell the cashier how many certificates I have, the amounts and the expiration date. At that point I can tell him/her if I would like to use any of them or if would like to save them. If I want to use them him/her would select the specific certificates and it would then apply to my total. I think this would be something that would increase customer satisfaction as it relates to the reward process.

Thanks for all the comments and insights into this idea. I am glad to report that Reward Zone members can now automatically redeem their reward certificates at the register without having to print them out in advance. Members would still need to generate their certificate in advance, from the points they have acquired, but do not need to print them out. Thanks again!

It's great when I receive an email telling me I have $5 to spend on my next purchase, but it is inconvenient to print out the coupon. On top of that, it's a waste of paper and ink. I'd much rather the credit just automatically take the discount when I purchase something during checkout. The system will know that I have x amount of credit and credit me accordingly.

In my opinion I would not want the system at the time of check out to automatically deduct the amount(s) of my reward zone because I may be saving them or would like to use them at another time. I think it would be helpful for the cashier to scan alll the items then scan the reward zone card or ask for the associated phone number. At that time they will be able to see the certificates that can be used and the customer can say yes or no to any or all of them.

I think this was specifically for online purchases, not for in store. But I could be wrong

Can always print them out in the store as well if you don't want to waste your paper and ink.  Heck, you can even just pull it up on your phone and have the cashier type in the code.  Once the code has been entered, it can't be entered again. 

 

I would be happy with the systems prompting how many RZ certificates are available once the Total key has been pressed and then asks if the customer would like to redeem them similar to how the systems ask about using your BBY credit card if you already have one.

I do not want it for one reason and one reason only. I have had my RewardZone account accessed by mistake by someone other than myself via the in-store RZ lookup by phone number option at the checkout and they had made purchases that were credited to my account. Adding the automatic use of points option to the checkout process at the register would mean that someone who gets access to my account in such a way would be able to use my many thousands of RZ points and that is completely unacceptable to me as a long-time and big-spending Best Buy customer.

I would like this option too but to be clear, we should be able to build up our savings like if we have a $5 certificate we should be able to choose when we want to use the savings.

It should be available at the checkout process as an option that the cashier can offer the customer. Since regular customers scan their reward zone cards anyway when checking out, the computer could be programmed so the cashiers and ask the customer if they wish to apply their available certificates. The customer then makes to option of applying them electronically on the spot, or having them roll over to another purchase down the road. The current system was obviously designed in the 1990's where you have to print a paper certificate and bring it in.

 

It should not be too difficult or expensive to update the system. When you go onto the Bestbuy.com web site, it already recognizes you as a repeat customer and how you pay for your merchandise. Further it recognizes you as a reward zone member and automatically gives you the pending points for any purchases. Why not take it one step further at the checkout stage and ask the customer if they wish to apply the available certificates.

 

If customers get an extra discount, they finish the transaction happier and are quicker to come back and spend even more. Make the reward zone easier to use, and customers will be more receptive to joining and staying in that circle of regular customers.

 

You already have special deals for silver premier members, so take it a simple step further and make the system easier and more user friendly encouraging as many people to join as possible.

I believe thelexmachine has a very valid point. As awesome and convinient it would be to have it automatically pop up at the time of check out if you would like to use your points or not, it would not be very secure. When you look up a RewardZone through a person's phone number, all too often the customer may give you a wrong number or may try using someone else's phone number especially if they knew they could use their RewardZone certificates. If this was to happen, there should be someway to verify that the certificates do in fact belong to the person trying to use them, such as scanning an ID or something of that sort.
