Require Captcha Code for high demand items

At the cost of annoying some, I'd like to see something implemented into the website where on certain items, say the SNES classic, you have to input a captcha code, or have a code sent to your phone to verify that it is indeed you who want to purchase it. That way you thwart automated bots and give those who really want the item a fair chance to do so.

Although I already have the SNES Classic, I am open to feedback about this from other fellow shoppers and Best Buy staff.

Interesting suggestion. Would anyone else like to see us implement this type of additional security? Make sure to vote for an idea if you like it.

Take it all the way up for all expensive items as well

Eh. Enough sites spam the crud out of you with that Captcha Code junk. Some of them even require doing multiple levels of it before they'll even let you log in. While I understand it's for alleged security purposes I think it's a waste of time and beyond annoying.

While I personally do support this and would encourage it as well...I am not sure it would do that much good honestly. There are far too many ways for bots to bypass such things.

I share both sentiments. On one hand, I hate having to check all the little boxes filled with street signs to verify I'm not a bot, on the other hand, I hate having items I am going to use or give as gifts fly off the shelves for those who are just going to resell them on ebay or whatnot.

I would agree that this should be implemented on high dollar, and/or high demand items only (which I admittedly am not a normal customer of). But it might be hard to determine which items are in that category.

Perhaps a happy middle ground would be to require anyone who was not choosing the option of "in-store pickup" to enter a Captcha Code. That wouldn't eliminate locals from mass ordering high demand items, but it might prevent bots or people not willing to travel to a store for a valuable item to snatch up everything. I don't know. Perhaps that's not an efficient or fair option.
