Now adays with so many games including both standard size games as well as collector sets having special casings and boxings with everything from cardbox sleeves to steelbooks to matte finish packaging and more it always a nightmare to do instore pickups on games having those kind of packaging due to the pickup labels the store places on the item that sometime damage the items when removed or leave irremovable marks or damage to the games packaging. i understand the labels are to help the employees tell what pickups are which customers but here is my suggestion that could make it better for both the stores and the customers:
On video games placed online for instore pickups as well as preorders placed for instore pickups instead of pulling from self and immediately placing that damaging label on the games that the games be placed in either clear see though poly or mylar bags which are avaibale in a wide variety of sizes and then the pickup labels could be placed on the outside of the clear bags providing both the protection of the item as well as since the bags would be clear see through the employees processing the pickups are still able to easily identify whose pick up items is which customer with the same ease they do it now.
A great idea, but not very cost effective
They already have sealable bags in the store for when you buy smaller items at one of the specialty registers (like in the computer area). Using them for store pickup wouldn't be all that cost prohibitive.
Either that, or change the properties of the adhesive to be more like a Post-It.
I agree that it is a good idea but it would be better to find a better adhesive label.
Obviously there would be a slight additional cost to do it this way, but overall I really like the idea. My only concern would be pre-ordered items somehow falling out of the labeled bag, then we somehow lose the bag, which could result in the pre-order being sold to someone else. actually most poly and mlyar bags have self sealing adhestive on the top so once the item is placed in the bags all the employee pulling the item would have to do is pull the tab on the adhesive on the bag at the top and it seals the bag shut which would prevent any the item from falling getting rid of that concern
Heck, just use the blue checkout bags and go to town with the tape if you so desire. I had a collector's edition of Borderlands 2 get completely mummified just to attach the paper with my info.
On the topic, how about those black straps that are used on bigger boxes? Every copy of Final Fantasy X | X-2 was over tightened, damaging a supposedly limited edition packaging. I opted to buy it straight from Square-Enix, so you lost a sale for charging full retail on damaged merchandise. Unfortunately, the same thing happened with Soulcalibur V, Final Fantasy XIII-2, and the Mass Effect Trilogy.
I see mountains of regular PS4/XB1 games kept behind counters when they could just be placed in the regular security case. Frozen has also enjoyed those special spots for weeks now. Just changing the way you handle special edition packaging would be cheaper than buying alternative materials to handle the games.
