From what I`ve been reading directly from BestBuy spokespeople you`re trying to strengthen your online presence & increase sales volumes on BB.com. Although, I live in area where BB stores are reachable in 30 minutes or less by car not everyone has that access. I don`t understand why a customer can`t join GCU thru BB.com or MyBB in fact I think it would solve alot of issues that arise & clutter the forums. It would link the MyBB account correctly & the address/phone # would either already be on file thru MyBB or the customer would be responsible for providing. With the high cost of gas distance has to be considered & why would you wanna lose a 2 yr committment for $120 over not being able to provide online sign up access. Outside of sign up GCU can be do thru BB.com it just makes sense.

I do fully agree with this however I was told by a community member once that and this is paraphrasing but

"GCU used to be offered on site hwoever it was then only offered in store due to the amount of people who registered was overwhelming and they wanted to keep it semi-exclusive."

I would lvoe to see it online again though!

Was this prior to them charging for it? At $120 I doubt they`re gonna be able to keep the program intact. It`s weird that you can do almost everything else thru BB.com but not this maybe Allan can fill in the blanks. Being overwhelmed with people spending $120 a pop seems quite profitable if they can cause a stir like on Black Friday should make BB execs happy. I`d settle for 5 million @ 120 yr one & twice that yr 2.

This sounds like a good idea to me, but I will admit I am not personally aware of any reasons why this isn't an option. Any more thoughts on this idea? Remember to vote for an idea if you like it.

I think Gamers Club Unlocked was never made available for online signups because the @Gamer coupons used to be only available for use in stores. So no reason to allow someone to sign up online if they somehow don't have a Best Buy store near where they live and didn't realize the coupons can't be used online.

Since @Gamer magazine will be going away in May along with the coupons, I don't see a reason as to why Best Buy shouldn't open registration for online. The 20% off benefit can be utilized online and in store now.

The free Gamer's Club sign up was available online but the paid program sign up has always been done in-store only as far as I can remember. Back when the GCU first started they required the reps in store to scan a pamphlet in order to activate the paid membership. This was in conjunction with a coupon that Best Buy sent out physically in a form letter to the Gamer's Club members that also had a barcode on it that had to be scanned along with that pamphlet. I distinctly remember that transaction being the reason why I registered here in the first place as it took about two months for that whole fiasco to get straightened out. It basically came down to someone somewhere along the way not reading the directions and doing things the way they were written out, just like the $30 promotional coupon for the two years for existing members caused more than a few SNAFU's since employees didn't want to read the letter and follow the directions. But to me the $120 for two years for folks who hadn't received the $30 or $60 offers for two years is more than a bit cost prohibitive compared to the nearest competitor offering a similar type of program. Once most people hear that price it scares them off. That's the cost of at least two new release titles(or nearly 3 for those in the Gamer's Club Unlocked currently @ $47.99 apiece before taxes). But I'm guessing the high price point was to subsidize the 20% off discount being added? As I doubt that discount is being sponsored by any of the companies manufacturing these games, right?

Just to add:  When I wanted to be a GCU member for a long time, I kept looking online and couldn't find a sign up link.  I just kept getting redirects and various other pages about GCU.  I decided to go in store and found the GCU card, rang it up, and was all set.

It was a very vague process, which only became clear when I had completed the process and ordered some games.
