Open Box temporary discounts should be advertised to all and applied fairly in store and online

I'd like to see online (Website) notice when Best Buy stores (locally or nationwide) offer Open Box discount promotions. Also, when I order something from the Open Box website for store pickup, I'd like to see these promotional discounts automatically applied to the final price calculation.

Here's the scenario. When looking for a particular product at Best Buy (online or in a store), I'll also consider Clearance and Open Box items. It seems that a couple times a year, certain stores will offer further promotional discounts on Open Box items. For example, around Mother's Day and after New Year's Day, one local store offered 20% extra discount off all Open Box laptops, and 15% off Open Box Tablets, and 10% off Open Box cameras. Each department differed. However, I could find no notice of this anywhere, except by seeing a few paper signs placed around the store.

Another store regularly has 10% off weekends for Open Box merchandise. I would really like to see this temporary pricing appear on the website (or sent to interested customers via email/text) so it can be equally and fairly applied. Sometimes, even the store employees have no idea of this temporary discount. I have to walk them over to see the sign, and then they call the manager of the day. Sadly, some managers will sometimes deny the discount. Much inconsistency applies. Hence my request for its appearance online, by email, and in my online shopping cart at checkout.

There are occasionally nationally promoted Open Box sale events that are much like what you're suggesting. Individual stores would likely still have the wherewithal to have their own promotions as well. It's always a good idea to keep in touch with your local store about special events, especially if (as you say) they offer this type of promotion with regularity.

@J91914 I think this originates from the fact that some stores are sitting on much heavier volumes of open box items than others so at the stores' discretion they decide to further mark these SKUs down. The real issue is the way stores are executing on open items: say there's an open box laptop. When the open box tag is created, the computer marks it down automatically (say 10% off). When the store realizes they're sitting on close to 24 open box laptops they decide to advertise an extra 10% off of the already marked down price because this is the "lazy" way of applying this discount because you don't have to calculate 20% off the MSRP for 24 laptops and reprint the tags; However, in doing it this way, the updated pricing never hits BestBuy.com which is HUGE because we know that online sales contribute just as much (if not more than) in-store sales and even drives over-the-phone sales too in some cases. The SOP around this needs to be updated where if a store wants to markdown additionally they can, but they need do it the right way and stop cutting corners.

I would stay away from posting individual stores open box items online.  The only effective way to sell open box items online is via a single warehouse location where the items can be inspected and throughly listed.

Typically an open box item is one that was returned by a customer, or was a floor model of an item.

No 2 stores are going to have the same open box items.  So with your idea you could purchase an open box item online from store 5322 and meanwhile a person is in that store buying it.
