Best Buy really needs to be more competetive here. Think about it; "Get the best new games... a day or two after you would get it from any other retailer!"
How does that sound from a marketing stand point? Currently this is what Best Buy is doing. These games are typically in your warehouses at least a week before release and yet even for Elite Plus members you aren't shipping till late Monday afternoon for Tuesday releases (I recently posted in the gaming forum about issues of Best Buy not even shipping expedited for Elite Plus members who have chosed it as well).
Even if this was only an additional "perk" to being a Gamer's Club Unlocked member (paid membership), this is something that Best Buy should be looking into to significantly improve their standing compared to other retailers.
I agree with this.
I would agree with you, but if Best Buy was to do this they would be violating manufacturer rules, and then risk being able to carry the product at all. Thats why products cannot be on the floor early
Best Buy for a fact shipped some Titanfall orders last Thursday which resulted in most people getting them Tuesday. Companies ship before release date all the time to ensure a customer gets them on release day.
Ship the standard orders on Thursday, ship the expedited orders on Friday. Or, and this is crazy, but they could also just schedule Tuesday delivery with UPS for all orders and ship them Thursday before release.
Case and point. I'm an Elite Plus, GCU member who pre-ordered weeks ago and I still haven't gotten my game which was supposed to ship expedited but shipped standard. I've missed two days of playing one of the biggest releases of 2014 because I chose to purchase with Best Buy (Something I wanted to do because how can you beat the deal). I don't want to see Best Buy spending more to make this happen, I just want to see them figure out the process. Why some customers had their game shipped last Thursday and got their game on Tuesday while others didn't have their game ship until the end of the buisness day on Monday is beyond me.
This is purely an operations issue that looks good from a marketing stand point.
Unless they managed some sort of agreement with the manufacturers they would get in serious trouble for doing it.
They really should not ship pre-orders until the very day before release. If in fact they shipped some last Thursday there would be good chance some would get them early. I suppose they can put thing on there saying, don't deliver before Tuesday, but the shippers are not beholden to that.
IF it is so very important to have a particlular game or product ON release day then you should always opt for in store pickup.
While it seems like a good idea I also see it as pointless since Best Buy has store pickup as an option.
It would be beneficial for people that don't live near a store (say 30 minutes or farther away) or just can't make it to the store to pickup an item. I'm guessing it would cost a few dollars for the release day shipping too, which could then cause people to gravitate towards a store pickup.
I'm neutral on the topic myself and I don't see myself utilizing it very often since I'd compare the extra cost of (assumed) shipping against driving to a nearby store.
