This should actually become a staple perk of Gamer`s Club Unlocked(GCU) going forward where gamers can trade their current gen version of a title into a nex gen counterpart. GTA V has been an epic selling title with over 33 million copies sold so being able to secure a larger % of the next gen sales will also be huge for BB. You`ve already done well by offering $10 credit for pre-ordering the next gen version but in order to secure the customers who already have the current gen you`re gonna need more otherwise they`ll just wait for a sale price. Piggybacking a trade in promo directly designed to get the current gen trade in & next gen $10 pre-order will be the best deal going meaning BB will see a huge influx of trades, $10 pre-orders & even GCU subs. Work the marketing out to get GCU in the actual marketing materials which combined with GTA V hype will propel interest in the program. A commercial campain along the lines of what Walmart currently does should do wonders.

While I personally like it as a consumer I don't know if BestBuy would take the bait on this one. You have to consider normally a old gen game is $49.99 and the new gen game is already $59.99 so if you give $10 back on the same purchase there really isn't going to be all thatmuch rofit for BestBuy considering the manufacturer is still going to charge them probably about $25-30 for the game. (most businesses make about 100-120% profit always, obviously we have no way of knowing in this circumstance though I used to work at a grocery store though so I am relating this from that experience ) 

The only way I can really see this to be beneficial was if there was a limit of some kind ( like  two titles max for the year for that promo ) and it would be a certificate/gift card of osme kind but could not be used towards that purchase.

Remember this would be a GCU only promotional perk so that revenue along with being able to resell the used copies need to be factored in too. Granted after already selling 33 million new copies there`s not going to be a major market for the old gen versions but if they were crafty it would become a sale/@gamer(oops they got rid of @gamer) stack leading to a $10 or less final price. Use the trade in offer to secure GCU subs on the front end & a cheapy used stack to score subs on the backend. I`m all about getting as many people in the door, enticing em galore & watching GCU subs soar(copyrighted lol).

Thanks for the suggestion. We already provide a customer the option to trade-in their old games for Best Buy gift cards.

Is the poster asking for a complete swap out of old generation for new?  I think that would be a total money wash and not in BB's best interests.

There`s only going to be a few titles released on PS3/360 that will be re-released on PS4/XB1. The sales cycle to achieve would be securing the PS3/360 sale 1st regardless of being GCU & then being able to upgrade to the PS4/XB1 version in up to 60 or maybe even 90 days. If a customer is GCU they`d receive the next gen version for $35-$40 if not GCU they`d get the standard TIV amount. You can get financial assistance from the publisher b/c the program becomes 2 new games per customer which means 300,000 sales instantly becomes 600,000 locked in new game sales. Plus this would also allow BB to possibly get the last gen console trade in plus the current gen system upgrade w/GCU securing 2 yrs worth of new current gen sales.

Gamestop is already promoting a dedicated trade in offer for The last of Us and will probably do the same for this too. If you`re attempting to be turtle it only works if the rabbit stops which they aren`t you gotta get it in gear.
