Nintendo Unlocked

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎07-29-2013 11:46 PM

This is getting a little bit irritating, but 99.9% of the titles for Gamer's Club Unlocked happen to be for 360 and PS3. Sadly, Nintendo titles tend to be left out of this promotion and makes this membership useless if they don't buy 360 or PS3 games. Adding more Nintendo games and extending the promotion to handheld games would boost sales and spread to a bigger audience. Extending it to the 3DS could be a great idea. I know the games cost less, so the promotion could potentially be lowered to $10.

Suggestions: Wii U
Super Smash Bros 4

Mario Kart 8

Mario 3D World

Wonderful 101

Sonic Lost World

Donkey Kong Tropical Breeze

Bayonetta 2

X

Suggestions: 3DS

Sonic Lost World

Super Smash Bros 4

Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

Yoshi's Island

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team

Adding 3DS or Wii U titles to the mix would be enough to make me subscribe. I know a lot of others would too if Nintendo games were added.

I did hear back on this and basically it comes down to we will never be able to give a definitive answer on this one. It's completely possible we do add Nintendo titles to this promotion and then at a later date we might remove Nintendo titles from the promotion. In addition, for competitive reasons we would never be able to say what would be added to this promotion prior to those items being added; this of course means you would know once they were added.

Sorry, I completely missed your post.

I'm referring to the $10/$20 preorder certificates. I don't really buy sales as an excuse because Mario Kart 8 for example sold 1.2 million copies worldwide. Nintendo titles always sell well. On the Wii, Mario Kart Wii sold over 30 million copies. As someone who buys a lot of Nintendo titles, it would be great if preorder incentives were made with those Gamers Club promotions.

Pokemon, Zelda, Mario.. they all could use the preorder incentives.

@Autosaver, when sales are mentioned as a reason not to offer a promotion I think it`s more along the lines of Nintendo`s arrogance. They know their 1st party games will do good numbers so they`re less likely to join with BB to offer a credit incentive. Whereas a new IP or existing franchise from Ubisoft, Sony or EA feels the heat of competition and is more willing to do so to increase 1st week sales in hope of getting Mario like #`s.

Watchdogs just did major #`s 4 million 1st week which was aided by the various promos/marketing. And thanks to major credit offers added at the last minute Wolfenstein was able to secure respectable 1st week #`s which it wouldn`t have done without the increased $20-$25 offers.

What BB doesn`t really seem to get is that they really have the upperhand thanks to GCU. Having Nintendo titles add huge value to GCU & alot more people would consider paying $120 IF the majority of platforms had their premier titles covered. Since Nintendo is already reluctant to add credit not just add BB then if BB gets games they`re the only place to buy from on release. $48 w/$10 credit on WiiU, $32 w/$10 credit on 3DS titles would heavily bolster BB pre-orders giving them #`s to approach Nintendo with as a reason to do more with GCU.

Kmart of all places seems to be able to consistantly offer $10-$20 SYWR credits on Nintendo titles(WiiU/3DS) but I`m not sure if these are partly subsidized or not. If they can do it without $120 GCU BB should be able to much more. Even if it means a "packaged" pre-order promotion designed to secure multiple WiiU and/3DS titles to recieve a bigger credit incentive.

@enuf

I personally think you're jumping to conclusions with the arragance part. They're so arragant that other retailers provide preorder bonuses and gift cards but Bestbuy doesn't? Also, series such as Call of Duty, Halo, and Uncharted are multi-million sellers so I'm not sure why this only applies to Nintendo and not to Sony, Microsoft, or Activision.

I honestly don't think that Activision or Ubisoft partnered with Bestbuy for these promotions - Bestbuy does these promotions themselves. There's no way these publishers would give a retailer exclusive coupons.

People buy Nintendo games and having a $10 GCU certificate with a purchase will push me to purchase from Bestbuy every time.

Ok, the Wii U has been flying off the shelves with Mario Kart 8 and E3 just announced a ton of games.

I'd like to see the some of the following games apply for a $10/$5 GCU Promo

Super Smash Brothers [Wii U] [3DS]

Sonic Boom [Wii U] [3DS]

Splatoon [Wii U]

Zelda [Wii U]

Hyrule Warriors [Wii U]

Persona Q [3DS]

Xenoblade Chronicles X [Wii U]

Bayonetta 2 [Wii U]

Captain Toad [Wii U]

I totally agree with $10 preorder for Wii U games, but for the 3DS that seems a little to high a mark off for it to be reasonable - something like $5 sounds more reasonable, and is also something I could get behind.  It's disappointing how difficult it is to be a Nintendo gamer in these times - not that it's Best Buy's fault or anything, just a remark.

They have a current PS3/PS4/PSV deal that offers a $10 gc for the console version & $5 for the vita one it`s a Sony exclusive. But that`s pretty much what every one wants for Wii-U/3DS.

K-Mart has managed to do $10 or $20 back on a bunch of upcoming Nintendo games.  I'm hoping Best Buy can rise to meet the competition on this.

Any update on if/when Nintendo Wii U games will be eligible for the $10 pre-order via the game club?  I just bought a gamers club card today from Best Buy and was very disapointed to see that Nintendo Wii U games don't apply.
