Need better technical details & website filtering

I'm a longtime Best Buy customer but honestly I usually only buy things after I've done my research elsewhere and know the specific item I'm looking for when I visit the store or BestBuy.com.  Your website is horrible to navigate and lacks sufficient technical detail and filtering ability.  For instance, I'm currently shopping for a laptop to support my photo/video hobbies but I can't filter my search in any logical manner for the features I'm looking for (screen resolution, for instance).  Instead I'm stuck paging thru 300+ laptops and opening each to find the specs, which many times are inadequate.  If you want to see an example of optimal website filtering/navigation (both mobile & regular internet) see bhphotovideo.com.  In my opinion, all internet shopping should have their level of technical detail & user-controlled filtering.  I really want to buy my new laptop at Best Buy but you make it really hard to do that.

Just had a look at the laptop page.  I see there's a lot of filtering to shortlist models.

To clarify, I see the following options are available.

  • Seller
  • Customer Reviews
  • Current Offers
  • Availability
  • Brand
  • Price Range
  • Status
  • Screen Size
  • Features (3D-ready, backlit keyboard, Blu-Ray, webcam, Energy Star, HDMI Output, Ultraportable, wireless options)
  • Wireless capbilties
  • weight
  • system memory
  • processor brand
  • operating system
  • graphics
  • collection

What other criteria would help a purchaser?

You don't get it and if I have to explain it you're not going to get it.

Check out BH.  Make it exactly like that.

For one, on their filter I can pick multiple items in a category (ASUS & Sony, for instance...or everything but ACER) which is IMMENSELY helpful to narrow choices.  I can set my own price range instead of being locked into a price range.  I can pick any combination of technical specs (& in multiples) like: Screen size, screen type, monitor resolution, processor type, processor speed, processor core, RAM, Capacity, Drive speed, OS, Optical drive, wireless, graphics card type, graphics card, external ports, flash media slots, expansion slots, weight, est. battery life.  I can even search within my filtered results.

Your filtering options are just not technically specific and are really dumbed down to the point of uselessness.  Check out BH's technical detail on their filter.  That's what you're missing.  I'm telling you this because I like Best Buy.  I love having a Best Buy brick and mortar store to visit.  I want Best Buy to succeed but I have all but given up on doing my laptop research at BestBuy.com.

I hear where you are coming from on this, and wonder if other customers feel the same way. What features should be select-able for laptops?

The only real feature that I'd like to see added is a multi-search (check boxes) next to each item as he said.  Definitely nice when I want to specifically eliminate certain brands, sizes, weights, etc...

Granted, I rarely ever run across websites with that much control over the searches.  It's not exactly something that drives me mad or anything.
