I just had an interesting event with BestBuy. I want to preorder Batman Arkham Origins and Battlefield 4. I went ahead and preordered them because, according to the website, things are not charged until shipping. I know that there is a $1 thing that they charge to make sure everything is ok. I figured they would charge Paypal this $1 verification to make sure, you know. But what happened was that they charged the full $127 amount which I found out about only after logging into Paypal to do some ebay stuff. I had to cancel the order because I do not have enough money at the moment to pay for it all, but by October I will have more than enough. I also had to go to the bank and ask them to remove an overdraft charge to Paypal which they reluctantly did.
But, if it were clearer what the payment policy is with Paypal then I could have saved myself a headache. Just a little disclaimer would be nice saying "With orders paid for with Paypal, the full amount will be charged at the time of purchase." That's all. I know you probably had this disclaimer somewhere but I honestly looked for anything regarding payments with Paypal and I couldn't find much help.
People who use PayPal need to be aware of PayPal policies. PayPal's standard policy is to acquire your money right away.
However, vendors can access their PayPal gateway and set it up to NOT autotomacally capture funds at the time. This is more risky though for the vendor as PayPal will only gurantee the authorized funds for 3 days. After that they may not be able to reauthroize the transaction.
Note to self: don't buy Batman as it costs too much
But yeah I can see where this could be an issue and you was fortunate the bank didn't charge you that overdraft. I fully support a disclaimer.
