Improvements to the Trade-In system

A few points that you may want to consider for revising your trade-in system.

  • Make it Faster, GameStop has a very fast process that involves them changing modes on their registers and they can scan all of the games in a row. At Best Buy you have to go into etk and login into the trade-in application and then put the My Best Buy info in and then you can start scanning. But with every game you scan they have to click the condition of the game, which makes no sense to me. The conditions are working or not working but the employee has to select one and then scan another game. The employee should be able to scan one game and right away scan another.

  • Use the card reader to show the transaction in progress. This one is big because that way we can see if GCU is showing up correctly and the price of each game as it is added to the transaction. Also a note with the card reader, it can take forever to bring up the customer info for us to accept then sign the pad. I've waited 40 seconds before it showed up. If you show the transaction in progress then you could make the info and signature screens come up faster as well.

  • Simply the receipt process, printing out 10 pages when trading in 7 or 8 games seems like a waste of paper. 2 pages is the customer receipt and the rest is a page the employee has to attach to the game. It's a waste of time for them to taping each page to each game. Possibly print out one page for them to attach to all of the games or just keep track of the number of games a store is sending to MN digitally. You could also include an option of the receipt being emailed to us, as you do ask for our email during a trade-in.

  • Educate the employees, I have heard many cases where a employee and manager won't take a disc only game. Make sure you get the word out about taking disc only games and promos like the $50 tablet one you are doing now. It can make a customer mad and not want to return to a Best Buy if an employee is rude or doesn't understand how to use the trade-in system.

  • Work with local governments to simply the trade-in process, having to give a fingerprint or a photo of yourself can make one feel like a crook. I understand you have to follow the laws but why does it only apply to Best Buy in certain cities? For example, one store in my area has to take a picture of you with a trade-in transaction but the GameStop right down the street doesn't, even though they are in the same city.

  • If you did this I would love Best Buy until I die. Put the trades on a different card (like a trade-in card) that would make my purchase tax-free. At GameStop they use a trade-in card when I do a trade-in because in Wisconsin, and many other states, tax on a trade-in is not added. The reasoning behind this is because the state assumes you paid tax on the original product and therefore you shouldn't be taxed on the value you get from it. It's like trading in your car, you pay sales tax on the price not covered by your trade-in. I don't see why Best Buy couldn't do this. It adds more value to the trade-in and in your legal rights to do so in certain states.

If you can do any of these (especially the last one)  it will benefit us all Smiley Happy

To be honest I'd rather Best Buy actually REQUIRE everything for game and/or console trade-ins. I've seen the condition of the stuff they ship to Cowboom, where 90% of the consoles are maybe the console and a power cord at most. There's no charging cables(for PS3) and no controllers with them. Yet they want between $120 to $200+ for them? That's OUTRAGEOUS. But then again the trade-in values are pretty mediocre to begin with, so I guess that's why everything is incomplete, since you're only getting people who are absolutely desperate trading their junk condition stuff in. :-X That's also why I have rarely bought anything pre-owned from Best Buy in the last year or more. As a collector/gamer I refuse to buy anything that is incomplete or in bad condition.
