So the new MacBook Pros are beginning to ship and the number of computers with USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 is only growing thanks to adoption by PC and Google [Chromebook] OEM's. Yet visiting Best Buy stores in the area, the USB-C accessory sections adjacent to the Apple areas are bare and empty...some would even call them a ghost town. This seems to suggest that Best Buy is seeing unprecedented demand for these but they don't seem to be lifting replenishments on them seeing as they are always sold out and employees will tell me "oh yeah we got 2 of those in and they flew off the shelves). And this is not just the Apple-branded ones, but the J5 Create which appears to be the only multi-port USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 accessory Best Buy is stocking (which is a whole 'nother problem in itself when you can go online and there's a seemingly unlimited number of variations of these).
Another way of highlighting the Idea/Problem is if you type USB-C into the search bar on BestBuy.com it returns 25 items total. If you type it into a competitors site, it returns 518 items, all of which ship in two days.
I think the reality of it is that Thunderbolt is still relitivly new. Granted I think Thunderbolt should and will be the next big thing for connecting accessories but the truth is that right now the niche is actually still pretty small.
It will get better, but I am sure the buyers at BB don't want to go overboard as there will certainly be improvments to the technology and they dont' want to be left with a bunch of old gear.
