Idea to increase online sales

I was thinking about my shopping methods and about those of the people I serve who are less tech savvy. From this an idea came to my mind to help Best Buy stand out above the rest of the ecommerce noise. Clearly more and more people are shopping online. Bricks and mortar stores give people a chance to touch, see, hear, or interact with a product, but there are a large number of products where you just can't do that (hard drives, routers, USB devices, cameras, etc).

Best Buy needs to position itself as the place to go when you don’t want to be overwhelmed by choices. If I go to Amazon and look for a router I get tens of thousands of choices, I could spend hours clicking through models from every manufacturer on this planet. This is pure overwhelm for the typical person. Best Buy offers a good selection without allowing every Tom, Dick and Harry to sell on their site, this is GREAT. The only problem is that consumers THINK they need more choices. This high level of choice actually stresses out the average consumer as they pour through the options, search the web for reviews (which often conflict with one another), and ultimately they end up making a choice that they aren't 100% comfortable with because they couldn’t narrow it down to only one. Best Buy needs to eliminate that anxiety for the consumer. That is your online niche, otherwise you don’t have one, at least not that I can see. Black Friday may be great, but you need to drive people to your site year round and pull sales back from other E-tailers.

Here is a sample copy I came up with, clearly your marketing peeps would need to slice and dice it for something better, but it is a start.

"Feeling overwhelmed by online electronics options? If you don’t want to waste your day searching for the right product for you, then come to We have trusted choices and GeekSquad recommendations to make your life easy. You don't have to sit in front of the computer researching. Get on to living, get on to enjoying, use"

Actually has a BUNCH of Marketplace items, that confuse people just as much as Amazon.  Plus Best Buy wants as much product in your face as possible.  Rumor has it that stores cant have empty sections of carpet larger than 9 sq feet Smiley Tongue

Well, then they need to rethink things a bit. I think helping reduce buying anxiety could be a great niche.

Having faster shipping might help the sales and shipping it between there 3-5 days as stated.

Like what anh said, your processing speed is the worst I've experienced so far.  Your online system is great at receiving payment, but absolutely terrible at delivering the goods.

Up until last week, I had never bought from Best Buy online before. I ordered a monitor from you guys, but it's going on 6 business days now and the processing is still stuck on "PREPARING ORDER".

For kicks and giggles, I did a search about Best Buy's shipping, and I was flooded with results from other people saying the same thing.  At this rate, I'm fairly certain I could have ordered the monitor directly from China and had it delivered in a more timely manner than using Best Buy online.

Take note of GOOD competitive sites like NewEgg, Amazon, TigerDirect.   In this case, GOOD being their ability to ship a product in a timely manner (1-3 days, usually same or next day).

I won't be using Best Buy Online ever again.

I think  your may be in somewhat of a minority.  Many people, myself included, don't want just a couple of choices.

However, and I have written this many times, the Best Buy web people need to do a 563% better job at filling in specificaitons on items on their web site.  Example. compare 4 of the same type of item, say DSLR cameras.  then hit show differences.  the differences highlight.

Very frustrating that the a particular feature will show up as different when in fact it is exactly the same across the board.  but it shows up because some are not filled in or the why it is entered is slighly different etc...

A main idea of online shopping is to give the consumer as many choices as possible.
