Gaming store?

As an employee I find that most gamers prefer the "gaming shop" such as how GameStop is arranged compared to Bestbuy gaming. Any opinions on that topic? I would like to see Bestbuy gaming stores pop up.

Thanks for this idea.

Until Best Buy controls more of the gaming market, I don't really see stand alone stores as being really successful.  I'd rather focus on getting more midnight releases and larger selection of releases as well.

If memory serves me I believe someone suggested this in the past, and I do feel like it is an interesting idea. I agree with Dval that it might not be the right move now, but that doesn't mean it won't be in the future. Anyone else want to add to this? If you like the idea vote on it.

I'd love to see them eventually.  Just think we need better improvement in the stores before placing a store in malls and other places.  BBYMobile stores have already shown their profitability and capability of doing stand alone stores.

I absolutely agree, I know my gaming section(which I am currently a member of) is rocking. We definitely need more midnight releases though.

I like the idea. I see many best buy mobile stores in my local malls, and this would be the same format except it's a gaming store instead. This store would allow more room for gaming enthused employees rather than having the regular best buy employees who may not be able to offer as much information about gaming systems much as frequent gamers want. The more gamer-type employees, the more they can relate to the gaming consumer which leads to more customer satisfaction. I said I like the idea, however I can see this being a tough one to go through with.

Good idea this would also help BB put the newly traded in games right on the shelf which is where GS is able to beat BB. Having the hottest titles for $45 used w/i 3 weeks of release will move in-store & online but when you wait too long you can score the same game for $40 new so why pay the same money for used. Gotta cut down on the turnaround time someway.

Or just allow there to be a dedicated gaming store within a best buy where you can purchase stuff right there and walk out with it. Of course, check their receipt on the way out. But it is a hassle to have to go to customer service every time and then have them refund my pre order and then apply it to the game. Have a system like gamestop uses where they can track you in their system and see how much money you put down on the game. And ALLOW THEM TO PUT DLC BONUSES ON THE RECEIPT instead of having them emailed to me a day or 2 after the game comes out. *cough BORDERLANDS 2 PREMIERE CLUB cough*

Gaming in retail stores is a dying thing you guys! There are SO MANY associates still hell-bent on pouring more money into it, but guess what? In a few years, DLC is the only way that games will be sold.

Microsoft has talked about not having OD's on systems in the future. Obviously, ISP speeds are not up to par for this yet, but it is an inevitable reality.

The internet will suck the $$$ right out of game sales. All we will have will be the consoles themselves, which have little or no margin on them anyway.

Investing in gaming is exactly the Wrong thing to do to ensure a successful ten+ more years as a company. Investing in Geek Squad services, Home Theater services, product selection and accessories, with easy and cheap information on use will be the saving legs of Best Buy. We have to invest in things that will make us money guys, not just on what has traditionally worked. Geek Squad remote services are EXPLODING, and supporting that with in-store services is incredibly helpful with the Tech Support setup. PCHO can do incredible things if they offer more demo's, walk-out-working services included in product purchases, vendor credits from AV software (and maybe other software titles?) and tablet services. Maybe investing in Android Market giftcards that Best Buy partially subsidized in order to give incentive to buy through us instead of online, would give us more opportunities to attach margin-high accessories, if Best Buy actually would send stores good accessories.

Mobile computing, especially tablets, is one of the biggest and most poorly executed places in Best Buy

Gaming on the other hand, would give us more cash in the short term if we did more with it, but in the more important long term, it is a dead market.

I am a gaming associate at Best Buy. Best Buy needs to advirtise gaming. Obviously people come to BBY for TVs and computers because we promote it. Our weekly ad front page always has a TV on it, or a computer. And it works, because we are the go-to (besides Frys) for these major electronics. Put a gaming system on the front page, and make a commercial about the benefits of shopping at BBY for gaming needs. Then we will gain a better market. And then we can start seriously talking about stand alone BBY gaming. I think its a great opportunity for BBY to take down Gamestop, we can be the Go-to for ALL gamers if corporate would put forth some support and effort into this gaming industry. Same goes for appliances, we can easily be the number one appliance retailer if we just advirtised. Sears kicks butt in appliances because all they do is advirtise their pride and joy, appliances. Lets hope corporate can read our comments and use this site like it was made for.
