I think that this is an idea that Best Buy should consider greatly. I am a hardcore gamer and probably purchase ten games per year or more from Best Buy and that is just for me. I buy plenty of games as gifts as well. So I would say I buy about 15-20 $60 games per year. That a lot of cash ($1000+). I have recently been considering taking my gaming business elsewhere due to the current state of GCU. It used to be such an amazing deal and a great way to reward your most loyal customers. You would get a monthly magazine and $10 for every $150 spent, not to mention the amazing "5 for $100" and "Victory Can Be Pre-Ordered" promotions. Now, the only thing of mention is 20% off new games. While this is an amazing deal, it also is not. Lets take a look. Lets say you buy 5 games per year. Under the old system you would pay $15 for the membership and get $20 per game in certs, plus an extra $20 for spending $300. That's $120 in certs - $15 membership cost = $105. Under the new system, you get $12 off per game plus $10 in certs. That's $22 per game or $110 but the membership costs you $120 instead of $15, so you lose money. Here are my proposed changes to the program. If I don't see a positive improvement to the program soon, I will be switching to Amazon most likely.

1. Change the membership cost to something a bit more reasonable and add a one year option. $59.99 per year or $99.99 for two seems fair. That way people are saving money by going with the two year option.

2. Get rid of the magazine. It is pointless now that it is no longer print. I mean, it was nice to get a magazine in the mail every month which is why I still subscribe to GI, but now that it is digital only, it is dumb. By the time the magazine is available, I have known all the "news" for weeks or longer thanks to the internet.

3. Extend the 20% discount to accessories.

4. Keep the $10 pre-order bonus for free My Best Buy members but make it $15 for Unlocked members. Why are the people that pay $120 for their membership getting the same bonus as those that don't? Also, add new games to this list on a regular basis. A good way to do this would be to add new games every quarter. So say, add new games for Jan-Mar, then April-June, etc. There are so many games that I would purchase if they were part of this promotion.

5. Give bonus points for pre-ordering and picking up ANY game within a week of release, not just the ones on the $10/$15 promotion. Say if a game isn't on that promotion, you at least get $5 bonus.

6. Bring back the $10 for every $150 or maybe even $5 for every $100.

7. Get rid of the ridiculous 3 game limit and only ban someone if they are clearly abusing the discount for resale purposes (i.e. you notcie them buying ten copies of every game that comes out). I don't want to have to keeo track of my game purchases and worry that buying a gift for someone might put me over my limit and get my account deleted.

8. Have prizes like GameStop does with their Epic Giveaways (signed games, chance to go to E3, etc.)

It seems like there is much more than one idea here, but I would like to hear what others think about this idea. I believe we did just change number 7 on your list and you can read about the change here. Make sure you vote for an idea if you like it.

Some great points here, and some relate to individual ideax suggestions already been done. With the way BestBuy is trying to save money I don't know if they would even be willing to do anything like this. But it's great to put the suggestion out there. 100% support.

The only change made in regards to #7 is that it is now three games per platform per year, which while good, is not good enough. You still have to track your purchases on your own. This is very inconvenient. Lets say I buy four copies of the same game for the same platform (one for myself and three as gifts various times throughout the year). I don't want to worry about whether or not that fourth game purchase will get me banned or not. I shouldn't have to. If I am buying it online, there is nothing I can do as my GCU is tied to My Best Buy account which is tied to my BestBuy.com account which automatically takes the 20% off. And if I am in store and remember not to use my rewards card, I still lose out on the points and extended return policy as well as it counting towards my Elite Plus renewal. There should be a system in place that simply doesn't give you the 20% off after the third copy. I mean, in all honesty, this system is in place so that people don't buy a bunch of copies to resell, right? So if I am legitimately buying four copies of the game to give three of them as gifts for siblings or friends or nephews or whatever, why am I treated like a criminal and have my account deleted? I should honestly get the 20% off all four copies. If I buy ten, that is a different story.

In response to AWBrown, while I understand that they are having hard times, scaling back on their rewards program is not a godd way to keep customers. RZ and GCU are nowhere near as good as they were three years ago, and this is making me want to quit shopping there. You are not supposed to make your loyalty programs worse over time.

Alot of your requests have exist ideax threads already(I started many of them lol). The price has been discount quite often & even at $120 that`s $5/month. When it was $15/yr I tried endlessly to get ppl to stop getting single issues vs the sub tons didn`t listen. So they paid for 5-8 issues before finally giving in so they`re never gonna make eveyone happy. I also assume with a perm cut benefits would also downgrade or other limits so I`m good at $120. There`s plenty of CAG ways to reduce costs.

Firmly disagree on the mag it`s value is in ad/coupon space revenue there`s a reason all coupons aren`t all digital people like paper coupons. There`s ways to generate good profit from @gamer BB just doesn`t know how.

20% on accessories is already under review with 100+ kudos

#4 & 6 suggested & shot down, 5 & 8 already suggested w/o enough support to get under review & 7 is changed as good as we`re gonna get it.

Sort ideax by "top idea`s" you`ll find gems everywhere mostly under supported. The rejected Bi-Annual review is a classic airball as this would allow tons of customers to provide the largest feedback totals BB will ever get.

enuf - I just realized that the mag was discontinued. I had no idea because since it went digital I have not paid attention to it. What pisses me off though is that the 20% off doesn't apply to price matches. So if a game is $59.99 at Best Buy but on sale for $44.99 at Target, you pay $44.99 no matter where you go. You paid $120 for 20% off ALL new games. I didnt' pay $120 for the priveledge of a price match.

BB is right not to pm & offer the 20% though b/c the other retailer isn`t offering 20% off too. The result would be great for gamers but would be completely unsustainable. If a store puts a game on sale for 60% off the 20% off that price from BB not only is there zero profit but it would delete large volumes of inventory making it impossible to profit or break even. With $60 games there`s only so much wiggle room to begin with which is why I don`t understand why they don`t pack offers into GCU.

Go heavy with GCU only deals for 4-6 months while not discounting the sub making sure the offers are in each weekly ad. If a person keeps missing 1-2 deals per week over the course of 2 months they`ll bite the bullet. Online sign up, better welcome coupons, promos geared towards larger trade ins combined with coupons provide based on trade in amounts would really pick things up.

Honestly, the 3 game limit is more than generous.  I'd be happy with a 2 game limit in case I wanted an extra copy of a console game to play with my wife with 2 consoles in house.  But I know people buy extra copies for their friends (without them needing GCU) or to sell on eBay, so even with 3 they're being more than generous as this shouldn't be happening.
