Expanded Best Buy app

I use my own smart phone with the Best Buy app everyday to scan the bar codes and tell the customer about specs, reviews, comparisons and more.  My main issue is I often "sell" a TV's to a customer that wants it ASAP only to find we have no stock in RSS.

In my dream world, we'd have access to RSS via a smart app and maybe more.We are due a connected store upgrade, perhaps we'll get something like my idea. The Apple stores do it, and it's a great way to show the customer the connected world.

BTW, the Best Buy app needs to be fact checked. i.e. I sell a lot of Elite TV's at store 163, yet the app does not show we sell them in our Magnolia room.

Interesting idea. I'm not sure if expanding our App to include internal business applications would be such a great move, but I definitely agree that we should be getting our associates every tool that would assist them in helping our customers. I would like to hear from other employees on this.

I guess I should have been clearer. We'd need a expanded app just for team members, perhaps password protected.  What a joy it would be to do more on the sales floor. I've sold more than a few Best Buy smart phones after using my app to sell a TV. The interaction leads to small talk about the connected world we need to promote thru out the store. .

We have tons of useful data available at the register, we just need to safely access it.

Eh, if the device can function outside the store (whether password protected or not), I'd rather not take the risk myself.  I generally use the time it takes me to check product QOH to let the customer read over stuff like the GSBTP pamphlets (oldschool approach).  Don't even have a smart phone, so it would apply to myself less.

More knowledge at your fingertips can be nice, but it could also be bad if that information gets outside the company.

Apple does it without a issue, but they are the antithesis of old school and in my opinion we need to be too. The fact that you and others do not yet have a smart phone indicates a large, untapped connected market.

IMHO, Best Buy can't grow until we make shopping fun again. Every extra minute I spent away from a customer is a wasted revenue opportunity. I ran my own home theater store for 20 years before coming out of retirement just because I was bored and I missed selling. When you run your own store, you chase every opportunity to make shopping fun for your customer and your employees because every dollar in GP lands in your pocket.

We have the resources and talent to Out-Apple, Apple if we  we chose to.

Thanks for making it happen, now to get enough tablets out on the floor.
