For anyone over the age of 40, they remember the days when Radio Shack was nothing more than an electronics hardware store... every wire, resistor, connector known to mankind.  As history has shown of course, you can't sell only those things and expect to survive.  So, instead there are now a fraction of the number of Radio Shacks as there once were.

On the flip side, there are many more Best Buys out there, yet there is still a shortage of retail DIY electronics hardware.

There just is no place to reliably go close by to purchase cables, connectors, adapters, screws, fans, heatsinks, memory, cards, tools, the list goes on.  When you need these things, chances are you need it now for a project you're in the middle of.  These are not things you want to have to order online. This is no different than being in the middle of that home remodel project and having to head down to Home Depot.

Enter the Geek Zone.  The part of the store now renamed that incorporates both the Geek Squad support desk and new retail floor space for the items mentioned above. Geek staff would be the sales staff in the Zone.

BBY could learn a lot from Fryes

Exactly... and since BBY has a much higher penetration than Fryes, that's makes a lot of the business case.

Can't agree more.  I spend sooo much time looking for what may be considered "little things."  I usually can find them on Amazon but (no offense Amazon), I would much rather go to Best Buy.  For one thing, if I go to a local store, I just might see something I don't need and buy it anyway!

I would love to hear from others if they would like to see these items sold in our stores. Remember to vote for an idea if you like it.

This x10000. You could even just sell items / adapters / tools that the qeek squad carries for repairs for volume reasons. That way you make money from both the "handle it" and DIY groups.

BBY already carries these things in the computer section but they are relegated to the backside, away from the main floor where the computers are.

BestBUy Geeks are not really geeks, I have had several ocations where they do not even know how to turn on a device I am returning. GeekSquad is a complete mess, if they were that geeky they would be engineers working for Apple or Google. No need to say they cannot compare to Apple Geniuses that are trained for a limited line of products so they really know what they are doing.

I think this would be an awesome idea. I lost a bunch of motherboard screws and motherboard riser screws and I had to pay shipping and handling to get them to my house and they arrived after a week which was dumb.

I think Best Buy should sell things like motherboard screws, computer case screws, wiring, brackets, adapters, ect.

It really wouldn't take much to make this a reality.  I can remember when we use to sell soldering irons, meters, fuses, and many small things that many customers clamor for today.  I feel the same way about batteries, too.  Why are we not carrying the batteries we need to?
