Don't Take Away Reward Zone Points For Special Financing

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎10-27-2013 09:35 AM

Why has Best Buy taken away points earned for special financing?  I made a purchase for $249.99 and never recevied points due to selecting 6-month financing.  Why is Best Buy taking away points from its customers and not making the store employees aware of such a policy?  This policy is not posted anywhere on the store fronts or by the registers.  How is this ethical?  Til this policy is made known in the store and online, points should be given to customers accordingly.  This now makes me want to cancel everything I have with Best Buy move to buying straight from the manufacturers.  Please fix this Best Buy, or show your customers the policy!

@vaan285, at this time we will not be providing My Best Buy points for Special Financing purchases.

@vaan285;  I am trying to get clarification on this point, and will post back when I have new information. Are you referring to a pre-order of yours? If so, what was pre-ordered and when.

@Allan-BBY i have 3 orders that were pre-ordered on 6/11/13 (2 separate orders) and the other order was on 7/7/13.

@vaan285, Have you now received these two pre-orders? If so, what date did you receive them?

@vaan285, I did hear back on this. Since we do not collect the funds on a pre-order, until the order is received by the purchaser, it is not considered purchased until that point. That means the date of purchase of these two pre-orders will be the date you receive the items, and the terms of our rewards program at the purchase date will be the terms we should abide by.

@Allan-BBY Thank you for telling me that Allan, however, Best Buy should not charge against my account until those pre-ordered items ship.  A consistent validation of funds has been hitting my Best Buy account daily.

Therefore, after this holiday I will no longer shop at Best Buy or bestbuy.com due to the removal of points and benefits from their customers.  This is a terrible trend that should be reconciled immediately and Best Buy will lose daily loyal customers.  For me, who spends roughly $5,000 a year will take my money to Amazon and other retailers who will give their customers points and value for using their store credit card (Amazon'z credit card).  I will be more appreciated at these sites along with all loyal customers until Best Buy fixes their policies that shouldn't have been changed in the first place.

@vaan285, the authorization showing on your account is not us collecting the funds. It is merely us informing the bank in question that we have been authorized to collect a specific amount of funds from your account once the order does ship out. The purchase date would be the date we actually collect the funds from the bank.

I just actually found out about this. This is is not clearly stated for rewards members. I recently got the Best Buy Store card and bought a 47 inch tv for 779. I was looking forward to my best buy reward points, but was under the impression that I don't get the extra award points if I choose the special financing---but still get my normal points. I went online to check my balance because usually they are pending only to have a research to find this. Seriously?? You are going to cut me out of $15.00 just because I did the special financing? I can tell you right now, this will be the last purchase that I use on the card for that very reason. Everywhere else you can get the reward points, price match and get the special financing. How sad because I've been a loyal customer with you guys. These are huge purchases that most people make and for you guys to take that out, it wasn't very customer friendly at all. Nor was this really upfront when I made the purchase in the first place.

I actually register to this site just to tell you how unhappy I am with my points not applying when financing. I just found out about this policy. I looked everywhere to see where it stated that but couldn't find it. I am very unhappy with this new policy and I can tell you now, that I will be making my purchase elsewhere. I would only shop at Bestbuy if the item was given to me free. This is a horrible decision, as I spend a good chunk of change 5k or so and this is how you treat customers because they want to finance? Well, I hope you guys do well because you will be losing a ton of loyal customer. I can just go online and save a few hundred but you don't care because losing $15 in rewards is a big thing, when you make a couple of hundred more because your prices are higher. Well nice knowing you. Smiley Wink

I have been an elite plus member for the last 3 years. I buy all electronics at best buy over cheaper stores and online specials because of the reward zone points. I recently bought a ps4 and financed it because it was easier to check out that way and now I am not given any points on the purchase? This new policy has driven me away from best buy completely. It is sad to think a company would treat its loyal customers this way. I will miss shopping at your stores but the only reason I shop there is the rewards program and that has been taken away.

Just found out about this when my 80$ in points didn't post. Good thing I'm Elite Plus, I'm taking back my Macbook Pro and buying it from Amazon. I have a chase card and get 5% cash back on it when buying from Amazon (plus its tax-free).

Offically dont with Best Buy, cashing out my points that are left, and calling it the end of a relationship.
