Digitally pre-ordering Xbox One games

Status: Tell Us More

Is it possible that Best Buy in the near future will allow you to pre-order Xbox One games via Xbox Live digital codes? Newegg already does this feature. You are pre-ordering the game and when it comes out, you are emailed a code for $60 to redeem on the Xbox Store to purchase the game. I'd love to see this option at Best Buy. Being able to have the $10 promotion for certain games, any pre-order bonus (extra content, etc) and being able to buy a digital version instead of a physical copy.

Now I understand that I could walk into Best Buy, buy a $60 Xbox Live credit, go home, redeem the code and then buy the game, but I am missing out on any pre-order incentives.

PLEASE take this feature into consideration Best Buy! If you guys offered this feature, I would not see a reason for me to shop anywhere else to pre-order a game. You already do a great job with the $10 pre-order incentive. It would just be nice to be able to pre-order a digital copy of an Xbox One title and still get all the pre-order bonuses.

This is 2014 after all, digital content is becoming larger and larger over time and I believe it's time BestBuy took the next big step just like other stores are. I feel this would be a great step in the right direction as well.

I admit I am not sure on the market side what would be involved in something such as this as such as getting it set up with the manufacturer but as there are already windows based PC games that are digital I don't see no reason why the same can't be said for the other platforms.

Hope there are more votes than 4... Don't think Best Buy will take much notice at this point. Smiley Sad

A suggestion going into review isn't always based on vote count even though it does help for sure. There have been some really great suggestions that only got minimal vote ups but were nearly automatically put into under  review as they could affect the company as a whole for the better. Just wait it out it's only real advice I could give you.

Come on Best Buy, I'd love to see this idea put into the 'under review' category.

Any update from Best Buy on this subject?

@hulksmash865, I would need to have more people weigh in on this idea, and/or vote for the idea before I could pass it along to the appropriate business team here at our corporate headquarters for review.

I agree with this. Me and several  people have been talking about this. We want the DLC and pre order bonuses but some games we want digitaly. Actually now with the PS4 and XBO requiring the games be installed most would rather go digital so they don't have to get up and put the disc in for the game they want. I personally like a physical Library but for games that are played mostly online like FIFA, Destiny, COD.... I would rather buy those games digitaly.

When doing it digital having an option to, pick up and physical items in store or have them shipped, would be a good idea.

I'm not srue this idea of getting a $59.99 xbox card would really catch on though. You get the card then you load it into the Xbox. Some one may accidentaly purchase the wrong game. Then there is pre-loading of games nowadays. How soon does BB send out the card/code to redeem? People would not only get the BB DLC pre-order bonus but if BB sends the code out ahead of game release then people can digitally pre-order the game on the Xbox Store and get extra pre-order bonuses from the Xbox Store.

I think the best route would be for BB to partner with MS and Sony and be able to distribute actual game codes for digital pre-order and those codes are tied to the game it was ordered for instead of $60. This way BB can email the codes a week in advanced and you redeem it on the console and can pre-load the game as well. So come launch day you are ready to play at midnight.

I would like to also add that there is not a huge amount of people that come to BB forums or the ideas section. So votes probably tend to be low.

If you were to check out any Playstation or Xbox or Gaming site, they are filled with people that would love for this to happen. BB stands to gain a lot of business if an exclusive deal for this could be struck with MS and Sony. It needs to happen before Walmart or even Gamestop gets the jump on it. At least have it be exclusive to BB for 6 months or a year. They holiday season is huge for gaming so now would be the time to implement it. Before Nov. rolls around.
