Consider price matching used game retailer(s)

Although there`s more to price matching new games vs used mainly the trade in price fluctuations. But there`s definitely a huge advantage in adding this option for Game`s Club Unlocked(GCU) members, yet another reason not to shop elsewhere dedicating a even larger portion of gaming funds to BestBuy. Even if you only match a few select retailers GS being a must you could do considerable damage in a short time frame. The condition of used games is greatly better at BB vs GS but GS still has the edge on getting new trades back on the sales floor & BB customer complaints regarding a paltry in-store selection still exist. If your selection is already paltry even more reason to price match moving thru more units.

There`s several existing ideax threads dedicated to getting more games traded in & more people thinking of buying/trading in at BB. Combining one or two of them with used game price matching is the type of headline grabbing attention needed to propel GCU to number 1 status. Having a major marketing campain for GCU launch around Sept. would be about right to completely secure the fall gaming period for BB. You also put the competition on there heels with little time to plan a comeback campain before the damage is already done. Had the wheels been put in motion correctly E3 would be GCU coming out party with a Sept - Jan victory party.

Due to condition variances we would not be doing this. Thanks for the idea.

Back when I bought more games I asked and they would not match a Used game that was cheaper at GameStop.

I might even take it a step further and ask them to match used games sold by Amazon Wherehouse Deals.

I don't game as much as i used to, but back when I did and when BestBuy first started selling used games their prices were cheaper then GameStop. Now the customer has to be a bit more ontop of things.

GameStops are almost always at the most across the street from a BestBuy so going across the street to save 5-10 dollars is no big deal.

Assassin's Creed 3 for PS3 is 5 dollars cheaper at GameStop

Assassin's Creed 3 for Wii U is 4 dollars cheaper

There does not seem to be a way to edit my post. Sorry if i missed it. I agree with everything except the making it GCU exclusive of course. I understand where you are coming from, but for customers like myself who do not buy enough games to make GCU a worth while purchse it kind of leaves them in the dark.

I ran some numbers awhile ago and if i remember right you have to buy 4 or 5 new games if you got in at 60 dollar promo admission fee to make the credit you get back pay for GCU or in other words make GCU pay for itself.

I know I might be in the minority here, but with games getting shorter or coming out unpolished in one way or another not all games are worth a day one or 60 dollar purchase ontop of a games value also being subjective to each gamer as well.

I maybe bought 3 games at the 60 dollar price point last year, and this year it looks to be about 3 again so far, but ofcourse I'll be keeping an eye on BestBuy and other retailers for price drops sales and buy two get one free.

Anyhow the point I was trying to make is that I understand that you are trying to help justify the price of GCU, but as someone outside GCU looking in that would be like saying We only price match Amazon if you are My BestBuy Elite witch would make things even worse then when RewardZone was changed over.

I've been a Gamer's Club member and a member of Unlocked since it was first offered. At $15 it was a no brainer to buy in since you got coupons that gave you discounts on games as well as the 10% bump on trades and 10% off used.

Then they raised the price to 4x that and I was glad I was a member all along as they offered me a coupon for $30 for 2 years on top of the year I had just renewed for for $15 the month prior.

Somewhere along the way they added in the 20% off discount on all NEW titles as a perk for buying in as well as letting the @Gamer coupons(RIPSmiley Sad) stack with sale prices and then allowing the 20% discount to stack with both sale prices and the coupons.

So while they have eliminated @Gamer completely now and the coupons that it came with(which was a mistake imo) they have added another perk in the 20% discount that should appeal to many gamers.

As for them PMing other retailers on USED games, I don't even know if I would buy games pre-owned from BB at this point. Their shelves of used games at the local two stores look like Gamestops now with tons of disc only and possibly scratched to crap games due to them no longer REQUIRING everything on trades. That was the one thing that truly differentiated Best Buy's trade in program from Crapstop, was that they wanted complete and good condition games.

If they can fix that facet of the used games at their stores along with figuring out how to get the turnaround time between games traded in and them being put out on the shelf at stores shortened to under a month or even better the same day like many Gamestop stores, then I might even come back to buying pre-owned.

But as of now there's not much I would buy from the used section at my closest BB stores, even if they PM'd Gamestops sometimes lower prices. Lower prices mean nothing if I have to go hunt down a case, artwork and manual to make an incomplete game complete.

I could see condition variances being an issue if a used retailer sold two of the same items for different prices based on their condition. Even if Amazon Wherehouse did this GameStop and BestBuy both do not. So I don't understand how the condition variances would keep BestBuy from at least giving the idea some thought.

Weather you buy a great looking disc without artwork, a disc that has seen better days that has art work and a manual, or a combination of any of the above Battlefield 4 on Playstation 3 will still cost you only 27.99 at GameStop and 39.99 at BestBuy used.

From a selfish point of view I would like it.

But this would be a bad business practice. When price matching  it is BEST to only match same exact item in BRAND NEW condition.

Gamestop may give you $2 or $3 on a trade in and then mark it for $10, where Best Buy may give you $3 or $4 and then mark it for $11.

It would be like comparing cupcakes without tasting them or seeing them.

"Gamestop may give you $2 or $3 on a trade in and then mark it for $10, where Best Buy may give you $3 or $4 and then mark it for $11"

I guess that makes it a little more understandable.

If i use the other days BF4 on PS3 as an example...(Although funny it happens to go on sale used cheaper after I post about it being 17 dollars cheaper used at GameStop last week.)

I always kind of looked at it as a store would want to match and at least get some of my money over not getting any at all

Like wouldn't BestBuy rather match and get 28 dollars out of me then me going to GameStop them loosing an entire sale and me saving 17 dollars.

The thing about price matching is that for BB it`s at least a two purchase package. They get the intial pm`d item then the mybb pts rack up ensuring another sale in the future. MyBB certs function just like a giftcards to the "average" customer meaning they`re more willing to pay full price on an item if they have an amount of store credit that reduces the OOP cost to their buy price.

BB needs to be selling as many $120 GCU subs as possible which would allow them to get the higher % of a gamers annual spending budget locked into BB. This is another perk that would further reduce the customer from even considering another retailer. Another thing is that during the trip to get the game pm`d they may get other non gaming sales from the customer while they`re there.

If the goal is to destroy the competition then you must become the terminator put your foot on their neck till they can`t breathe. GS will pm any other retailer used game prices in very competitive shopping centers/malls to keep you in their store. They wanna win the war not the battle & by having you locked into GS credit they feel it works. Fortunately, you`re never credit anywhere if you know what you`re doing it may take a move or two but you can get out of any store.
