We ordered and received an item from Best Buy recently that was intended to be a xmas present for our son. There was no outer packaging. Someone literally slapped a mailing label on the box and shipped it out. I have 3 issues with this:
My idea, which is not terribly original or complicated is to put items in a generic box or even a Best Buy branded box (free advertsing) so the items are not damaged and no surprises are ruined. It could even be an optional service if cost is the issue.
It's an extra step and more expensive, but customers would appreciate it. Amazon does this as do most other retailers.
I believe it depends on whether or not the manufacturer's packaging is designed to be appropriate for shipping or not. I know we do ship out many items inside non-manufacturer packaging. Would anyone else like to see us ship everything in boxes of our own? Make sure to vote for an idea if you like it.
It depends on the product. I have received boxes with BB brand and also boxes with the manufacturer brand. (I.e. my computer came with iBUYPOWER packaging)
Im not really sure how much could really be done to alleviate this unless there are specific items you could provide for review. This is more of a quality assurance issue than anything else. I worked in QA for a couple of years at a plant and our shipping standards was as well by product.
I have shopped Best Buy for many years and I appreciate that they strive to remain a brick and mortar retailer as well as an on-line retailer. I wish to continue shopping with them.
For Christmas I purchased two iPads for family members but the iPads were out of stock at the store. The nice salesman offered to order them and I would receive them in a few days which I did. So far so good.
When I opened the brown corrugated box this is how I found the two iPads packaged: there was a single layer of bubble wrap lining the bottom of the box with the two Apple iPads sitting on top, nothing else. There was enough space in the box for the iPads to tumble about thus the corners of the packages were crushed and the plastic shrink wrap torn.
I am very disappointed in Bestbuys shipping department or this particular order fulfillment employee for the fact that they would allow $600+ of product to be sent out this way.
Please improve this.
