Best Buy needs an Assistive Technology Specialist

Status: Tell Us More
by on ‎11-18-2013 04:19 PM

Best Buy customers want to know how to modify their technology to meet their needs. Just about every operating system and device has an accessability setting. But folks don't know about it, how to find it and how to do it. These features include changing font size, screen colors and appearance, learning how to talk to a computer for dication or to listen to text on the page. Assistive Technology until now has been under control of experts and specialized manufacturers. Now off the shelf 'poptech' can do what the older and wildy expensive gear did and does. If Best Buy cut out a division to focus on Universal Design and Access, they would find that seniors, those with learning and physical and health woudl come to the Geek Squad for help, when they need it, not waiting forever for a specialist. There's nothing AT specialist can offer that an AT Geek Squad team couldn't accomplish. Best Buy would widen their market and the range of customers they could serve. Service what it's all about and why people sign up for the Geek Squad.

I'm fairly certain the Geek Squad already does some of this with our Tech Support service. Would anyone else like to see us expand in this area? Remember to vote for an idea if you like it.

As a person who is visually impaired/legally blind assistive technology has always been a huge item for me. I use ZoomText 10 software at work and at home on a daily basis. I can't see them going outside of the "computer assistive technology area" such as carrying cftv's etc I can't see that.

I could see them selling like Zoomtext, Windows Eyes, and etc. I don't know if you knew this or not but there is an actual reader software already on the Best Buy website.

I'd love to see more assistance in these areas but I am not sure the scene is as large as you may realize.
