Allow the option to opt out of "thank you" communications

Status: Acknowledged

You should provide an option to either permanently or by purchase opt out of getting any kind of "thank you" correspondence.  The reason I'm suggesting this is because on two recent occasions, I or my wife purchased a gift and the thank you note ruined the surprise.  The first time was when I got a new cell phone for my wife's birthday.  The plan was to give her the new phone, and swap the SIM cards, but you sent her a text message before she got the gift.  The second time, my wife bought a gift for me, and I received the email thanking me for the purchase before my birthday.

I understand that you want to show your appreciation to your customers, but I'm sure I'm not the only one to experience this unintended consequence.  Please seriously consider changing your policy, otherwise I'll have to consider making gift purchases elsewhere.

Thanks!

That's usually linked to a reward zone account.  Try checking your reward zone page to see if there's an option to stop receiving emails for the purchase.  Also, the register systems will generally prompt the associate asking if you want to receive an email receipt.  Just make sure they don't hit "yes".

Ok, you're going to have to tell me specifically where on the RewardZone pages to specify that I stop receiving emais because I don't see it anywhere.  I'd expect it to be under the Profile tab, but I only see my contact information.

The reason I got on this forum is because I contacted Best Buy about this issue, and got the following response:

Hi Michael,

I hope your doing well today. I apologize that you are receiving unwanted emails after your purchase is completed. You are correct, it does take away from the surprise! Currently we do not have a way to opt out of these "Thank You" emails at this time. However, I can opt your email out of receiving marketing solicitations if you prefer.

I think your opinion is beneficial, especially gift orders. If you could kindly post this great idea on our site called iDeaX ...

Besides, even if I opted out the emails, I don't know that that would stop the text messages for new phones.  As for the store clerks, when I bought the phone he told me that she would get the message as if there was nothing he could do about it.  I intercepted one message and deleted it from her phone, but missed the second.  I'll ask next time before I complete the purchase.

I can certainly see how this kind of communication from us could spoil a gift purchase, and would thank you for letting us know about this suggestion. I am not personally aware of how a customer would opt out of this kind of communication themselves, but you should be able to opt out of this communication by calling 1-888-BestBuy. I do agree that it would be nice if a customer could just do this themselves, and I would like to hear from other customers if they are having this same kind of issue?
