Allow customers to begin the videogame trade in online & then complete in-store

In all honesty the videogame trade in process is a mess time wise & structure wise, most trading regulars could complete a trade better & correctly than the reps at CS. And since we`re still waiting to see if BB will rethink the decision to backtrack on removing the gaming counters with dedicated game reps(horrible decision already has an existing ideax thread) here`s an alternative. http://www.forums.bestbuy.com/t5/Best-Buy-IdeaX/Please-bring-back-the-video-game-trade-in-counters/i...

If we could just go onto BB.com, select the games we wanna trade in & get a full print out to bring to CS that would save ALOT of time. All the rep would need to do is scan the barcode which would already have the amounts INCLUDING the 10%(which has been a MAJOR issue just search the forums). If there`s 10 games all they have to do is confirm the games in the cases are the same & get the ID. If one or more of the titles are not correct they can simply scan the barcode next to whatever title(s) are incorrect to remove them from the trade.

Even better existing traders would have the option to "load" their ID info right on the page too which would be barcoded for safety. That way a CS would only need to verify each game(s) & then scan the complete trade barcode and/or the 10% GCU bonus barcode & customer ID info barcode. By reducing what the rep.needs to do there`s less chance of error or employee giving bad info which can only speed up the process by "dummy proofing" it & allow the pc to do all the work. Alot of companies try to remove the "human element" for some of the same reasons not to mention cost cutting, but once this would go into place it would greatly reduce the # of customer complaints on the forums boards from customers who clearly know what/how to do to complete a trade.

Offer an additional $1 per trade for doing the online pre-trade since it ensures a trip in-store which can lead to a instant in-store sale. If you had the gaming counters you`d be able to coach up the staff on how to upsell to customers recieving giftcards which will pay for itself very quickly if done correctly.

Speed up, dummy proof & profitize the entire videogame process in 1 move which will strengthen Gamers Club Unlocked(GCU) all in one motion.

The business team has informed me that as of now we will not be moving forward with this idea.

I have a feeling we don't allow this due to legal reasons, but who knows. I do know the laws regulating businesses in the trade-in business vary from one community to the next. It's completely possible this idea just could never happen, but I would like to hear from others on this. Remember to vote for an idea if you like it.

I think a lot of the legal issues go away if you require the online trade quote to apply to only a specific store for a specific period of time. That way, any alerts can be presented at the time of the quote instead of the store (including quantity restrictions and store hours, too).

I live in a location where the laws require an ID, fingerprint, and signature. I don't really see this as being an issue, as they would only be verifying the information presented and getting a new fingerprint and signature. I'm not a lawyer, though.

The only issue would be the requirement for some stores where the game had to have been purchased at that store. For those stores, you are probably doing the customer a service in advising them they need proof of purchase before they get there, and cutting down on time spent researching the customer's history at the register - or just outright excluding those stores from the online quote process with a nicely worded reason.

And nothing prevents a manager to override the validity of online quotes when there is an inevitable snafu with the system, as the existing process would still be viable for existing walkins.

The store rep would still need to verify the trade as normal but the meat & potatoes of the trade would already be done. If all the requirements are met then it`s a simple barcode(s) scanned to finalize everthing. Basically, this would be a 3-5 day pre-trade lock in which preserves the 50% or 100% at the quoted price so if a customer pre-trades on Sat. but can`t get to BB till Monday BB doesn`t lose the trade & the customer is happy too.

This type of convience could be promoted as a way that BB is better than GS.

In those stores like mine where a receipt is required to trade in, the receipt must be of an in store purchase. All the games I buy from Bestbuy.com are untradeable because my emailed paperwork lacks the set of numbers present on the receipt that the store needs to input while processing the trade. Stupid, as I have the proof I bought it from Best Buy but thats the way it is. Perhaps something like enuf suggested here could square all that away online and then I just bring in the paperwork with the "simple barcode" as he put it to finalize. It is unfair that my Bestbuy.com paperwork and order history is not proof enough that I bought it from Best Buy. As it stands now, I trade in everywhere else because of this(mostly GameStop), 10% Gamers Club trade in bonus or not.

BTW, I rarely buy in store since the 20% off rarely come off automatically there and I always need a manager override. Therefore almost all my purchases are from the website where I never have a problem in that regard. But then...I can't trade in in store and get the promotional bonusesSmiley Mad

i dont see why this isnt done.

its no different than you going into the store other than there is no employe to screw it up or say the systems down or we dont do that. let us set up the trade with the quote for how much we get print it out and hand them the paper. they check it and make sure its good, scan the items and check your i.d.

speaking of i still need to contact someone about points i never got for a trade in.

@ inky, have you contacted a BB mod for assistance on the 20% issue.

I haven't because I am not exactly sure when the problem started and wanted to have my facts straight. I remember at first when the new program started in the fall, the 20% was coming off automatically in store as well. Sometime this calendar year the problems began. Was the first half off membership for $60 deal back in January or Feb? I think when I took advantage of that(tacking on another 2 years to my membership) I started to have problems. Again, online has never been a problem for me, ever. You think a mod can fix that?

Post in the gamers club section a mod can help with it. Several customers have had similar issues posted in the last month or so.

If anything, I think that Best Buy should finally look into completely copying Gamestop and figure out how it is that they can put used games right out on the shelf for sale while Best Buy still has to send them away for processing.

Not to mention that the used games that're traded in at each BB location should stay at or be re-distributed back to the location where they were initially traded in.

It just seems like the game selection in the used section at my stores is severely lacking and you have 10 copies of X or Y game with only a handful of better titles.

Mind you, I would also like to see Best Buy differentiate themselves from Gamestop by going back to REQUIRING everything for a game to be traded in again. There's far too many generic coverart games in the used sections at EVERY Best Buy store now imo.

It just doesn't look good and for a nitpicky customer like me I WON'T buy the incomplete games unless I have a spare case/coverart/manual sitting around.

My stores never required complete games & b/c of system errors/typos there`s been cases where I needed to.trade disc only b/c of bad employees. The LE/SE of a game doesn`t matter to BB on trade in but the picture of one of these could throw off a bad rep.

If they had the trade in counters with reps have them inspect disks if thy`re okay process them for resale right then if not have the machines in the back & do it asap. Because of how good BB`s prices are I just utilize GS`s 7 day used policy to acquire the coverart/manual.
