Allow Government / Student Discounts Throughout the Year on Laptops / Desktops and In-Store Upgrades

Best Buy should compete with manufacturer's to allow for student and Federal / State Government discounts on laptops, desktops and certain accessories.  I know Apple allows it's Government employees a pretty good discount on products (with proper ID) and same goes for student discounts with Sony.  It would be a HUGE benefit to have something like this implemented.

Along these lines, it would be great to see customers be able to build the machine they want, regardless on brand, to suit their needs, rather than purchase an off the floor model computer.  What if a customer wants a bigger hard drive or more memory?  The customer should be able to order through Best Buy, and Geek Squad could upgrade the memory of the machine or the customer should have the choice to order from the manufacturer from Best Buy.  Obviously certain hard drives and memory cannot be upgraded, i.e solid slate drives (SSD), on MackBook Airs for example.

I hope Best Buy can implement something like this sooner rather than later to help improve their customer relationships.

While this would be a nice idea I would like to point out as a state of GA employee my own self we don't get just discounts anywhere. The state has to discuss the  terms with that company. At the moment we only have contracts with like Dell/HP/Verizon. I would love to get an extra discount from BestBuy!

Being a fed employee, I'd love to see some discounts Smiley Tongue But of course I'm biased.

No! It's not needed. If someone is eligible for a discount from Dell, HP, or whomever, they can and should get it directly from those manufacturers. As far as custom ordering goes, the same applies. If you want a specific configuration, you order from the manufacturer. It costs a bit less to order memory and storage upgrades directly from the manufacturer when ordering a laptop or desktop than it does to get the same or similar upgrades through Best Buy's Geek Squad, which won't have warranty coverage from the manufacturer.

I noticed that students get an extra $150 off from best buy with a valid .edu address, it should be broadened to state and federal employees as well, i believe this would increase Best Buy's revenue!

I also noticed regarding this topic that Best Buy only accepts .EDU email address for students, my mom works at a special needs school and has a .ORG email address.  I believe Best Buy should expand it's education discounts to their faculty as well.  Most teachers work just as hard and deserve their discount as well!

Federal and State employees should also have this benefit.  As noted above by me, it would be great to see this, even it's only during a brief period throughout the year.  I hope this is considered by management to gain more ground with it's military and service women all over the world.
