All stores should have try-on Apple Watches

The Apple Watch has been out for over a year now and here in the San Antonio, TX area you still cannot find stores that actually allow you to try on an Apple Watch.  A lot of customers don't feel comfortable spending $299-$799 without actually being able to touch and feel an item and fundamentally, this is the concept that Best Buy is based on (i.e. you can touch, feel and test drive most items in-store).

This seems like a sily miss for Best Buy for a few reasons:

(1) customers may decide to go to an Apple Store to try on the Watch.  If the price is the same as what Best Buy has it for, what reason would someone have for wasting time and gas to drive back to Best Buy to purchase it?

(2) Target and Walmart now carry the Apple Watch as well and they have exactly the same kind of demo unit and the same problem (you can't try on Watches there either).  Best Buy can use this as a differentiator. In a lot of cases, Targets and Walmarts are located within a 5-mile radius to Best Buy stores here in the area. Someone may decide to go 5% on their Target RED card for being able to actually touch, feel and try-on the product to make sure it's what they really want, especially when you consider time and gas (as stated before) - i.e. is it worth $15 (5% of $299) to get in the car and drive over to Target where you have to wait for an associate to probably get keys to get the Watch out - or do I purchase at Best Buy because they have it for me to try on whereas Target does not and they've also got it in-stock ready for me to buy? (plus if you have a Best Buy card and you pay it off you can still get 5% back too).

(3) The current method increases returns.  Most returns on Apple Watches are due to size issues or band color variations.  It's one thing to see what a band is going to look like on an iPad screen, but a lot of times colors on a computer screen vary from what they actually look like in person.  How much of a value could there be to taking a couple of returns -- i.e. a 38mm Sport Watch, 38mm Nylon Watch, 42mm Sport Watch and 42mm Nylon Watch and having the stores hold these as try-on units?  If you go thru BestBuy.com and search for open box items, it shows open boxes for almost every model at almost every store.  If you were able to reduce returns (which are loss leaders because they have to be reduced down to be resold), this could be an astronomical savings over time, just from pulling 4 Apple Watches aside (mind you, these could be sold later as open boxes if there were a refresh or the models chosen for try-on were discontinued so there's literally minimal loss for Best Buy on that end).

I truly do hear where you are coming from on this, and I would imagine anyone spending that amount of money on a watch would want to try it on before purchasing it. What do others think about this idea? Make sure to vote for an idea if you like it.

They fall into the category of a high risk theft item.  However, it would not hurt to have non working dummy models available with different size bands.
