Although I like the new gamers club unlocked program there were several perks sacrificed that used to make me get games day 1. I was able to become RZ silver based on mainly gaming deals but with the loss of the consistant $10(500 RZ points) pre-order bonuses & $10 RZ for every $150 spent on gaming I've done less & less of purchasing day 1. I know in order for these deals to continue there has to be a better give & take for BB to remain profittable so my suggestion is to offer a 3rd gamers club option that can be achieved/earned in more than 1 way.
If you were to buy 1 $60 release week game per month you'd spend $720 per year which is a large chunk of money to invest in games.
A-So say if you spend $1000 on games/accessories in 1 yr you would become GCU silver & a new set of benefits would be available.
B-Another way to become GCU silver would be participate in 12 pre-determined GCU/GCU Silver deals in 1 yr that would also warrant an upgrade since you would be supporting the program throughout the year.
C-The final way to earn GCU silver status would be to participate in 2 five for $100 deals in 1 yr with 1 major adjustment. We should be able to select the 10 games thoughout the year instead of just a list of 15. Several top notch titles would be excluded based on suits instead of customer demand which happens quite often(remember Batman Arkham Asylum was an underdog smash hit that lead to AC being blockbuster). The 5 for $100 was very very sound but the process(pre-order, issuing of $100) needed upgrades.
Editince the current GCU can be purchased then GCU Silver status should also be allowed but since the benefits are very generous the GCU Silver should be $30 per yr if not earned through the means above. Offer both GCU & GCU Silver for $40 so more people would do this vs paying $15 for GCU & another $30 for GCU SIlver.
Some perks I would like to see would include
1-A coupon book for GCU silver members
2-Special "sponsored" editions of the @gamer mag with coupons that would be directly tied to specific AAA titles.
3-Emailed deals just for CU silver members
4-An additional 10% off ALL gaming products & the ones that can be discounted should net either an instant BB giftcard or RZ points equal to the 10%. This 10% should stack with the current GCU 10% as you would've paid $15 for the 1st & earned the Silver status through above measures.
I know there's more perks that I missing hopefully other gamers can contribute.
I try not to make the ideas completely 1 sided but it's difficult to gauge certain things w/o knowing BB's current #'s. They should be able to attract at least 5 million paid gamers club members paying $15 per yr so that's $60 million upfront from memberships. The reason I say 5 million members is I would expect them to have at least 1 million on their own & on average take close to 1 million customers from each of the these retailers Walmart, Gamestop, Target, ToysRus, Amazon & NewEgg. Now with a paid subscription base this large they should get a nice cash bump from advertisers.
With the deals ideas I've provided they should be able to convert 20% of the paid GC members to Silver status(some thru paid upfront, some thru $1000 spent others thru deal participation). The 5 for $100 deals offer an additional way to get ad dollars that would help offset the $100 reward & when game companies see the sales increase BB can then get them to offer more swag/perks that will again increase sales further.
GS is the only competition when it comes to pre-orders but they offer DLC vs giftcard/credit which to most people isn't even...not to mention that alot of DLC eventually makes it way to GOTY anyways.
The other advantage that my ideas offer BB is that all gamers can find huge value in the program whether you buy new, used, cheap, bargain hunt, high credit or just want a day 1 discounts. This is the real key having a program that attracts a large group of gamers. Now there's alot of casual gamers that wont spend $1000 per yr but if they're getting a new console that 10% discount or back in GC/RZ points is worth it. Add in the games now they're closer to $1000 & they could also buy stuff for others using their card too. Paying that $40 could go along way with discounts throughout the year even for the casuals. BB just needs to make people aware that "you could've saved $18 on this purchase if you were a GCU silver member".
Once they get people to join there's a certain "obligation" to check BB for deals to make the sub worth it.
Finally, I have another perk to the GCU Silver status...Offer a special price matching option that will allow us to never worry about not getting the best deal at BB but the 10% would NOT stack since this is already a big help. Matching a Newegg/AMZ price would help BB steal their customers who want the game on the spot. And since we would have b2g1 coupons that would eliminate the need for YMMV price match attempts on these types of deals.
I would like to get one thing out of the way - this membership is WAY better than GameStop's PowerUp Pro, where you have to spend $5000 on new games to get $50 back, less if buying used. In regards to a Gamers Club Unlocked Silver Level, I think it would be great. You could attain this level a few different ways. I would call it Platinum however, as to not be confused with Premier Silver.
Some of the added benefits of Platinum could be
