Honestly, I think they could advertise it all they want at this point but most regular customers would likely scoff at it like I did when I initially heard about the outlandish increase. It's one thing if the magazine stayed as a benefit and they added more than just the 20% off new games for the price bump.
But to take stuff away and then expect customers to think it's a better deal?
Not to mention the fact that a lot of people(myself included) like to take a wait and see approach to membership programs and only like to sign up for one year at a time. That's why I was annoyed with having to be locked in for 2 more years on top of the one I just had renewed for.
TL;DR version: The only way I see the average consumer biting on this program advertising or not is to drop the price down to its old level.
1-Better & more total welcome kit coupons
2-30 day locked in trade in values on pre-ordered new releases
3-@Gamer moving to mybb w/more total & diverse coupons
4-Coupons to expand the trade in offer beyond just 50% or 100%
5-Full overhaul to pre-order credits all $60 titles get $15-$20 all $40 get $10
By having consistant weekly temptation offers a person who regularly follows the games will start to see 4-5 deals per months that they want. You miss 8-10 at that point you realize even at $100 you`d make or save it quite quickly. The problem is the aggressive pricing hasn`t resulting into aggressive promoting & deal offering. My point though was that I had already re-upped when they decided to revamp the program. So I was already locked in till October of 2014. I did NOT want the added expense nor to be locked in for two more years as I ALWAYS take a wait and see approach to programs like this. But the coupon was a use or lose it deal and thankfully I had enough leftover credit from my last trade-in to cover that $30.
But with @Gamer going away and GCU members now being reliant on the bi weekly coupons that're available to ALL Gamer's Club members and having them stack with a good sale price to get a decent deal, I am seeing less and less reason to re-up come 2016. Especially if the coupons are going to be as meh as the ones in the last couple of cycles from the MyBestBuy offer pages have been($X off Sim City for PC or $Y if you are GCU, $X off an already overpriced HDMI cable and the current $X off an overpriced headset).
If anything, I feel the MyBB bi weekly coupons should be targeted coupons based on a customers purchasing habits. That being if someone only buys all games for PS3, then they should get an $X off such n such PS3 title coupon and not the same generic coupon as everybody else.
As for the pre-order thing, I think I've PO'd maybe 4 titles at BB and 3 of those were immediate returns since they lacked even the same PO bonus(es) as other retailers received. The only one I think I've ever picked up and kept was GTA V and that was PO'd for months in advance.
I agree that they need to bring back the welcome packets for the program and maybe add back in the B2G1 on NEW titles(and maybe have that stack with our 20% discount :-P?).
What got me kind of annoyed was when I did re-up and was told that the welcome packets were sent out in batches and that the next one wasn't due for X amount of time. Yet BB's closest competitor Gamestop just automatically sends out their B2G1F coupon or whatever bonus they're doing now for re-upping to ALL customers with NO 'batches'. It's just sent automatically to all users. The only upside to the batch thing was that one of the mods here offered me a gc in lieu of the welcome packet and that gc was a good substitute since it wasn't just a $5-10 one.
But at the time I also thought it was rather silly that the company had not adopted the rest of the Gamestop programs set up and had the welcome packets set to just auto distribute to each new member or re-upped member rather than sending them out in 'waves'.
