i cannot tell you how many customers come in and they're shocked to see us in a best buy location. This needs to be advertised, customers are asking for and employees are begging for it, maybe not TV ads but somehow Magnolia, Appliances and Mobile are growing because they're being marketed and we're not because noone knows that we are even here. I'm not asking for anything too crazy, but a bit more then what we're doing now i'm certain would make a big impact on our business.
I heavily agree and have heard such a cry echoed repeatedly by my co-workers at both the Milwaukee, WI and Orange, CA Music Gear store's I've worked at.
It's been four years and I still hear "when did Best Buy start selling guitars?!" or, "I didn't know this was here! I come in here all the time, but ..."
When I've told other musicians in bands I've played with where I work or that that they can get their strings, cables, etc. cheaper where I work, they tell me they had no idea BB had anything like that, and many are sceptical til they see what we have. Sure, I'm supporting the "grassroots" word of mouth, but THE GROUNDSWELL IS OVER.
Hello everyone, I have been working at the Best Buy Musical Instruments for the past 4 almost 5 years. And I agree with Glen completely, on a daily basis here in Ann Arbor 5 min away from the University of Michigan Campus and surrounded by several schools we are the only reputable music store in town. We have at least 10 or more people come in daily saying that they did not know that we were here and it has been 4 or almost 5 years. So the debate why we do not advertise for Music Gear is because we don't want miss lead customers by putting music gear in the ad when ever store does not have one. Well here is the deal we have gear guides why can't we mail out those to the area/market that we have music gear stores in? If our customers knew we were here in Lower Michigan and Mid Michigan we would literally be the number one stores for sells on a consistent basis. Also if we can cater to Local High Schools with Reeds, mouth pieces, oils and care kits we would make a killing in sales of those things alone in this area. I know every High School Band Director in the area and when they found out we had reeds when we carried them for a short time they sent all of there students here to get them and then we stopped selling them. The reason why this thing has not been successful is because we have not taken the time to and the approach to make it successful!! Does our Company realize how many people I come in on a regular basis that says I don't go shop at Guitar Center anymore because I like your store so much better. I have even had customers tell me "I heard you were possibly closing Music Gear, Best buy can not close until they get my Approval" So Corporate if you are listening to the guys in the trenches less get this right!! It can be more successful!
I AGREE! Bestbuy doesnt do enough advertising or even letting employees now on new products.....its like on bby.com they sell so many cool things that you would never thought best buy would carry and even the employees dont know about it, outdoor furniture, grills,,etc
