20% Gamer`s Club Unlocked(GCU) discount on digital games solution

This can be put in place in two seperate ways with the same result. Have digital versions of games pre-loaded in USB drives or single use install disc. With the drives the games logo can be on it or BB can provide there own for purchase. Once the game is downloaded from the USB a customer can either keep the USB or recycle it back to BB & it can be reloaded again then resold. If the customer keeps the USB there`s a cost which would already have been paid when the game was purchased. BB would be able to work out a financial agreeement with publishers since they`d definitely back the ability to sell digital content from a B&M market place with a huge drop in OOP manufactoring cost. Plus they wouldn`t need to fear the secondary used game market with these.

Customes would love the ability to load the game without using the internet for long download times too. I don`t know all the tech issue it would require to put this into effect but I haven`t really seen a ton of ways to merge GCU & digital gaming in a cost effective way.

Would anyone else like to see this put into place? Remember to vote for an idea if you like it.

One issue I do see this with this s that a lot of games are requiring some form of online registration to their site .I.e. The batman DLC stuff requires you to register a WBID.

I like this idea though a lot. I also am curious how a usb profit/loss would be from this. Wouldn't the usb only have one serial?

This sounds like a good idea. If it could be 100% done without someone making copies or figureing out a way to make copies this could be a solid solution. Even a single Use Disc for install sounds good. Is it possible is another thing. Pirates ruin everything.

What we really need is a hybrid system of MS's original vision for XB1 DRM and the current state of physical games.  You can choose to buy the normal physical copy and put the disc in every time, OR buy an install disc, insert the disc only to install the game, and then enter a one-time code to "activate" the installation through MS/Sony.  Internet connectivity is only required to process the activation (and of course download any patches).  Of couse, this is not a Best Buy issue, more of an MS/Sony issue.  The Best Buy issue is that GCU members should be eligble for the 20% discount on digital copies regardless of implementation.  I don't care how it happens; sell little cards with a game code you have to scratch off, put a discount on PSN/XBL money cards, whatever.

Why not just sell a code? Much easier and if the customer is worried about the time it will take to download the game they can either upgrade their internet connection or buy the disc

I forgot where on the forums I read this but someone had said tha Newegg or some site like that let you "digitally" pre-order a game and you would get the Pre-order DLC and they would send you a XBL/PSN card for the amount of the game. You would then use that card to purchase the game digitally from your console.

This seems like a wierd way of doing things but is a simpler way to do it Today while we wait for Developers and MS/Sony to implement this.

  • Pre-Order Halo:MCC in-store (or on-line) "Digitally"
  • When the game is released you get emailed any DLC code (and it's printed ont he receipt)
  • Any Physical Pre-Order Bonuses are Picked up from store (Or Shipped)
  • Instead of getting a copy of the game you get a MS/Sony card for $59.99 ($47.99 charged for GCU but it's a $59.99 card)
  • It's up to the customer to then DL the game from thier console.

There are some minor flaws with it that need to be worked out. Like how soon do you send out the card since the games can be pre-ordered and Pre-installed on consoles now. You don't really want people to get the BB DLC Bonus and the MS/Sony Digital pre oreder bonus but you also don't want people to not buy this from BB because they don't want to wait to install the game when they could jsut order it from MS/Sony int he first place and pre-download.
