PSVR First Impression

First off let me be the first to admit that I’m a PlayStation fanboy.  Any of my friends, coworkers and wife will tell you.  I’m all things PS.  I was intrigued when I first played a PSVR demo at work and was sold after my second time at the store, but I still was waiting for the day when my very own PSVR would arrive.  That day has come.

Setup:  Let’s get this out of the way.  There are a lot of wires from the headset to the console to the console to your TV.  Your living room is going to be consumed by wires when you’re done setting up the PSVR.  I even tried using wireless headphones to eliminate a wire…no dice (Only wired headphones).  Once you’re all plugged in, the on-screen instructions are self-explanatory.

Gameplay:  I played VR Worlds, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, Batman VR and the Cinematic Mode for non-vr games.   I was incredibly impressed.  The gameplay was surprisingly very different from game-to-game.  The variety of first-person experiences available was fascinating.

Graphics:  The graphics are above average.  You’ll notice that the images aren’t as crystal clear as you’d hope they would be. I found that after a few games I didn’t notice.

Sound:  This was the most impressive part.  The sound design in all these games is incredible.  It adds perfectly to the immersion.  I picked up the PSVR specific headphones and would highly advise other to so as well.

Motion Controllers:  There were a few games that really utilized the controllers well.  If you have a weapons or need to use your hands a lot then they’re totally worth it.

Overall: I’m highly impressed with PSVR and look forward to the wide array of games that are coming.  I’d advise starting with VR Worlds especially London Heist (My favorite experience) then move into something a little more advance and finally hit Until Dawn rush of blood (The roller coaster up and down motion had me feeling a little dizzy).
