Question about LG washer and Dryer (WM9000HVA and DLGX900)

So I am getting mixed responses whether or not I should purchase an extended warranty for the washer and dryer. I have purchased one in my life for a dishwasher that I never had an issue with and I regret buying it. This is my first front-loading washer so I have no idea on what the reliability is on these LG units.I just don't want to waste money if I don't have to. Thanks for any advice!

Re: Question about LG washer and Dryer (WM9000HVA and DLGX900)

Hello chrish713, and welcome back to the forum,

I just helped my parents look for a washer and dryer set a couple months ago, and there are quite a few factors you have to take under consideration when looking to buy appliances. What features do I want? What options do I have that will fit the allotted space in my laundry room and what color should I choose? Do I need a gas model or an electric one? Most importantly, will I need coverage for possible repair scenarios?

As you may know, most appliances come with at least a one-year warranty through the manufacturer with some parts even having longer coverage terms. If the purchase stops working within this time frame, you should be covered in terms of service costs should the problem be hardware-related. In this sense, a Geek Squad Protection (GSP) wouldn’t be necessary. Coverage beyond the manufacturer warranty is something I tend to recommend though no matter what retailer customers end up purchasing from. This is because the older the appliance becomes, the likelihood of it ever needing service increases exponentially. That’s not to say it will need repair services before you wish to replace it; however, having the peace of mind that a larger-ticket purchase is covered should the worse happen is always nice, especially when the cost of a GSP plan (while it can seem daunting up front) oftentimes tends to be cheaper than one repair service.

With all that said, please don’t hesitate to bubble up any other questions you may have, as I certainly don’t want you purchasing you don’t believe will work for you. I ultimately just want to ensure you end up buying something that makes sense for your situation.

I hope this helps,
