I just read about Amazon having a new generation of Echo Dots. Is there a compelling reason I should upgrade to these? I recently got an Echo Dot with Clock and also before that I refurbished Echo dot (both 3rd Gen) and I'm liking it due to it having awesome sound and love it. My husband and I have our lamps connected to smart plugs and bulbs and its made our life easier to say the least.
However these new models remind me of a crystal ball. Is the sound on the speaker improved? I did own a second gen at one point and found the audio was very tiny at best but the 3rd gen had awesome sound and it still does. It's no Bose but you know what I mean.

Hey there, hockeycanuckjc!
This is great question! Products like the Echo Dots are a great way to keep your smart home connected, and I can totally understand wanting to make sure that you have the model that is the best solution for you. While the design of the latest echo dot does look quite different from the last generation, both model have the same size, 1.6", speaker. Both generations also include a 3.5 mm line out for use with external speakers. In this situation, there is not quite the jump in difference for the speakers that you saw from the second generation to the third.
Hopefully this helps! If you have any other questions, please feel free to let us know.

Thank you I will stick with the 3rd generation products then since they are working fine for us
