I don't have an electric but a friend of mine has an older model of the Char Broil 1000 and it is amazing. 

It really is a set it and forget it. Well don't forget it, you need to check the wood chips every now and then depending on how long your smoking for.

I strongly recommend using wood pellets.  They seem to smoke better.
