iPhone + employee discounts if purchased from Best Buy?

I got off the phone with someone at AT&T and she told me that the only way I get my employers discount is if I order the iPhone from the AT&T Premiere site.  The Apple store, W-M, nor Best Buy purchased iPhones can be used with the employee discount.  Is this true?  If so, that makes absolutely no sense.  What does AT&T care where you bought the phone from?  The service goes through them and only through them.  I'm currently with Verizon and when I bought my current phone, I could have purchased it anywhere it was sold and then called up customer service at Verizon and told them where I worked.  2 minutes later, my account showed my 20% employee discount.  I seriously hope that AT&T isn't this blind that they'd lose customers just because they want people to buy the phone from them.

Are you speaking of an employee discount on the phone or on the monthly service?

Re: iPhone + employee discounts if purchased from Best Buy?

If you have a discount set up on your account through your employer, and you are able to get a discount off the price of the phone, then yes, the only place you can get a discount off the purchase price of a phone is through AT&T Premier (to my latest knowledge).

However, if you have a discount on your service plan itself, it shouldn't make any difference where you get the phone from, as the service plan won't be changed but to add the iPhone data plan (and any other changes you may want to make).

Another thing to keep in mind is that a lot of the companies that have business agreements with AT&T do not allow the iPhone to be used with their service discounts, or cannot allow discounts with the purchase of the iPhone. I would check your account information with AT&T and check if your business discount allows for a discount off the price of the phone, or if it's just the service.

Also, if you're just getting the business discount set up, AT&T's slow, but thorough when it comes to setting it up. They actually verify employment when it's set up, and it can take some time. It's been awhile since I worked for AT&T, so I can't remember what the time frame is, or even if it changed or not.

Anyways, that's my 2 cents on the whole deal.

Re: iPhone + employee discounts if purchased from Best Buy?

When I go to the AT&T Premiere site to verify my email, I then look at the Promotions.  I get free activation, 23% on voice and data plans, and 25% on accessories.  I do not get any discount on the iPhone itself.  The problem lies in the fact that the CSA told me that I wouldn't receive any discount on voice or data plans if I didn't order the phone through the Premiere website.  I was under the impression that you buy it from wherever, activate it, contact AT&T with you FAN # and/or work email, and your discount goes into effect.

I don't expect an employee discount on the phone, but them telling me that I don't get one for the voice/data plans is wrong.  Verizon and Sprint don't care where I buy a phone as long as I verify that I am eligible for the employee discount.

Discounts on your rate plan are done at account-level, and it doesn't matter where it's activated. Discounts on tangible items require them to be purchased through ATT. Activation fee credits may require you to get the phone through ATT.

Nokia's right. Discounts on things like the accessories have to be purchased through AT&T, but for everything else, it doesn't matter. It can be purchased from wherever.

The AT&T rep must have been desperate for a sale.

If you want to buy the iphone then you can check that whether employee are getting the benefits or not but if you want to have the facilities for few time then you can utilize the scheme of best iphone deals. At reasonable price network providers will give you the iphone. By this way you can save your money all and can access the talk time, SIM, internet etc facility also.
