Unlocked means it does not come with a SIM card.

So you can activate it with a the carrier of your choice.  Just make sure before you buy it that it will be compatible and usable in India.

Re: What is difference between unlocked activate now and unlocked activate later?

Hi there, Prudhvi!

Welcome to the Best Buy Support Forums. I understand that you have some questions regarding the purchase of an unlocked phone, and I would be happy to assist you with these questions!

In this case, please know that when using the "Activate Now" option on a cell phone, the cell phone would need to be activated with us at the time of purchase. We are currently able to activate unlocked phones on Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint. If your carrier is not one of these three carriers, or you are planning on taking this device out of the country, you would want to use the "Activate Later" option, as in this case, you will receive the phone unactivated, and can activate the phone on the carrier of your choice once you receive the new phone.

Additionally, I do want to point out that all products sold by Best Buy are intended for use in the United States and sold with the expectation that the products will be used here in the United States (Please see our International Orders page for more information). With that being understood, Best Buy is unable to guarantee the compatibility or functionality of a product that is brought outside of the United States. In these cases, we strongly recommend contacting the carrier that you will be using the phone with to ensure that the phone is compatible with their network.

Hope this helps!

Sincerely,
