Please help me with GPS booster for andriod phones!

I have an LG Volt (with Virgin Mobile service) that I was fine with until Pokemon Go came out.  My 15 year old has a Samsung 5s (new out of the box June 2016, on Straight Talk service) and we are both having GPS issues.  We've seen people with some sort of antenna sticking out of their headphone jack and I was wondering if we could get something as well.

Can someone offer me advice on what to get that's worth the time and money, a specific brand and type?

I need to upgrade my phone but that won't happen till Christmas.

I am having the issue of constantly losing my GPS signal and I'm not sure if it's my old style phone or the game itself.

15 year old is having strange issues.  His friend has Samsung 5s, no issues whatsoever but he never updated Google Maps.  My 15 yr old updated Google Maps and now we go to the park and his Pokemon trainer will not enter the park, he stands on the road.  We went to the library, then drove 30 miles away, the Pokemon trainer stayed at the library for the whole 30 mile distance!

I just want this to work.  Me and the boy finally have something we can do together and I'd appreciate greatly, any advice on helping this game work for us without spending thousands of dollars on iPhones  :-D

Re: Please help me with GPS booster for andriod phones!

Hi misty123,

I've absolutely loved the Pokémon GO app! It's fantastic to hear that you and your son are both enjoying this app as well, giving you two the opportunity to spend some quality time together doing something you both love.

With that said, GPS is essential to the game as you've discovered. I'm sorry to hear that you are both encountering issues with the GPS. With that said, instead of looking into buying a device, have you checked into the settings of each of your devices?

On Android devices, I believe you should have the option to activate High Accuracy mode in your Location settings. Typically High Accuracy mode uses GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile networks to determine your location, where as other options in this setting may only use Wi-Fi and mobile networks, or purely GPS. Be aware though that the higher accuracy you choose for your GPS the more battery it will drain.

Thanks but both of our phones were already set to high accuracy.  We checked  :-(  Any other easy tips?  (we read somewhere that running Google Mapsck ground should help but it doesn't fix the issue of the trainer standing outside of the park and never walking into it)

Hi misty123,

It's good to hear you've already checked your location settings, although I'm discouraged that may not be the problem.

Have you also attempted to calibrate your phone's GPS via the Compass app? Upon some research, I found that mentioned on several occasions as well. Also, have you noticed low signal while at the park?

Unfortunately, while I see that we carry cell signal boosters, I do not see anything that would fit your needs on the go.

Ah ha! We fixed the boy's phone! He had a metallic mirror case that was interfering with signal. His buddy figured that out. Wouldn't have thought of it on my own

Hi misty123,

That's wonderful to hear! Anything that causes you to lose signal - your location, or perhaps something material like a phone case - would have a significant impact on your GPS' ability to locate you.

Cheers!
