Can I buy a WiFi hotspot that’s unattached to a carrier? Unlocked iPhone 7+. Thanks!!

Hi! I’m currently traveling full time with an iPhone 7+ (unlocked). I’ve been buying SIM card in Central America but am back in the USA for a month. Can I buy a SIM card here? Or a mobile hotspot without being attached to a carrier?
I really appreciate the help!

I sincerely hope you’re enjoying yours travels! Best buy certainly offers “Bring Your Own Phone” SIM card kits but please keep in mind that many of them are only offered online.
