After Best Buy resolves a customer service problem, give the customer a gift card, so the customer is enticed to come back to the store and spend more money.

Get Demo Items Up Faster

Status: Acknowledged
by vaan285 on ‎04-23-2013 03:27 PM

I recently went into Best Buy the past couple of days looking for the new Sony Handycam's.  The associate who helped me had said the demo of the camcorder I was looking at should be up fairly soon.  I was happy with the response, however, another associate said they do not know when the new displays will be set up.

The Best Buy website says that the store has the items in stock and ready for purchase.  Any customer walking into the store wouldn't know if new products were available.

I'm waiting for the demo products to be put up, is there anything hold Best Buy back from putting up demo products once the products are received?

Status: Acknowledged
All of our stores should have all demo products up and running at the same time the items are available for purchase. If this is not the case at your store there is most likely an unforeseen circumstance preventing this. This store should have these demos up and running as soon as they can.

Don't sell yourselves out!

I'm bewildered by the fact that you sell Amazon's Kindle. Amazon.com is the primary reason you are experiencing poor sales. If you must sell the Kindle, you should do what The Guitar Centers do - they have a big sign above their doors saying they will match online sites. And they DO! Not only did they match a price for me, they did better. As a result they made a huge sale!

Best Buy is my "Toy Store". I would be sad to see you go away. You must do what is in your best interests while doing right by your customers. I'm sure they won't miss the Kindle. I always check with BB first - this led to me buying a wonderful iPad MINI from you this past week.

Finally we need to take more pride in American companies. You've done a wonderful job with your "Apple Boutique", and even though they are assembled in Asia with Asian parts, Apple provides countless jobs in this country. As well as I am aware that Samsung is a huge market, it's because our marketplaces give it so much exposure, and now you are about to open "Samsung Boutiques". If you want to be considered a good corporate citizen, and not be and American sellout, you might want to reconsider the scope of such offerings.

Status: Acknowledged
The first time I heard we were selling the Kindle I was surprised myself, but it is a popular product. Apple is also a competitor of ours, but we still want to provide their popular products to our offerings. We are open to selling any products made in the U.S., but to be honest there really aren't that many manufacturers of consumer electronics based in the U.S. Thanks for sharing.

A site filter to show me what's in store

Status: Acknowledged
by amglaeser on ‎03-22-2013 03:57 AM

Let me first say, I think the marketplace affiliate integration in the site is a cool thing...

But frankly, it sometimes is a bit aggravating.

For example.

Tonight, as about midnight, my power supply on my main PC died. I frankly can not leave it down for several days to wait for shipping of a new one.

So I load up pages for several local retailers, and electronics stores, to see what's being offered.

This way, when a decent shopping hour comes around, I am armed with an idea of where I am going, and what I am looking to purchase.

so I hit the best buy site, and frankly, am stopped in my tracks. Sure, it is cool to have the marketplace affiliates listed, but there should be a simple way for me to exclude those results, when I am looking for products that might be in my actual local store... As well as a way to see whether a specific product is in at a specific store. There are about a dozen different stores in my relatively local area... Easily within what I am willing to drive to go get this power supply in the morning.

granted, that's because of the time saved by not having to drive to each and every one of them, along with a dozen OTHER stores to make my purchase. One of the basic reasons for a website, and the internet in general really, is for it's uses to simplify shopping.

frankly, the marketplace results make it MORE difficult for me to shop what's in my local stores.

Because of this, I will most likely be purchasing from a competitor, since they at least list what I can go and buy from them tomorrow on their website

Status: Acknowledged
I certainly do hear where you are coming from on this. You can get rid of all Marketplace options by clicking the "Best Buy Items" link on the left side search parameters, and to see if it's in your local store just click the Check Stores link on the product page after inputting your zip code.

As it currently stands, it seems customers are being denied returns for purchases they made before they had any idea their returns may be denied.

In the interest of complete openness with the customer, if Best Buy wants to continue banning returns, they should at least allow returns for purchases made BEFORE the customers gets warned about return denials. Any purchases after a customer gets a warning would fall to the denial status. T

That would allow customers to make purchases knowing if it can be returned or not. And it would also allow Best Buy to still limit returns of some customers - all with no additional scanning  or work.

Ideas from a student in China

by kjmartin on ‎03-05-2013 05:55 AM

Dear the Best Buy:

   I write this message just after reading the news that you plan to give up several projects in China. I don't think this is really a wise decision. Besides I find another news in the same website, saying that the superbatteries is under development, and the market is too big for market apartment to estimate, especially in China. the other products are the same!

 In short, I just write to remind you, but to the decision,just on you.

 Thank you.

I have to admit I'm not sure what projects you are referring to, but would thank you for sharing your thoughts on this.

My idea is for BB to hire somone to specifically over see a departments specificaitons for the items in that department.

Here is my reasoning.   In the middle of January I started my journey to buy a new powerful gaming laptop.    I started off on BB online.  Long story short it was very frustrating the lack of cohesivness in the specificaitons on various products and how many of them are missing specificatations.  Especially for people like me who are looking for certain things.

For example when looking at gaming computers. Look at the MSI laptops that are priced at $1499  there are currenlty 3

select highlite the differences and it should highlight the features that are different.  You will find some features which are identical, however they show up as different becuase the information was entered different.  For one example look at the Networking.  It is identical but entered different shows up as different.

My idea is for BB to have a person who's job it is to collect that data and make sure it is correct.  That person should also make sure that all the fields are filled in.  I think you could increase your sales rate for high end devices if you had more info.

I ended up seeing the brand and going to the manufacturers to find specific inforamtion on a number of BB machines because they did not have it.

Sorry if this is in the wrong board, but this is my idea.

It's very likely we already have people whose job it is to make sure specifications are accurate before a product is posted to our website, or sold in our stores. It's most likely the sheer number of items we sell that would cause any discrepancies.

Smart Sound Case

I am the owner of a small marketing company in Los Angeles and have been introducted to a new product that may interest Best Buy in its Cell Phone Case departments.

The Product is called the Smart Sound Case designed here in Los Angeles and manufactured in Korea. Its a hard backed case (metal for iphone) and (ridged plastic for the G3) and similar for other phone styles, that has sound tunnels within the case that channels the sound from the phones speakers to a colapsable sound chamber that amplifies the sound and improves the sound quality and also doubles and the cases stand for the owners viewing pleasure.

It is developed for many styles of phones, but I have showcased the Iphone 5 and the G3 being popular and a very lightweight and atractive design.

It is as many of you know difficult for smaller product developers to get in the door of a large company like Best Buy to have their products shown. If there is anyone who is able to get this product shown to a corporate manager someone with the voice to push this product through to the shelves of Best Buy they will not be dissapointed.

I can be contacted at {removed per forum guidelines} and we can set up a time for a conference call to discuss potential meetings for this product sale.

Provide Windows7 computers

Status: Acknowledged
by dd-dash on ‎01-25-2013 07:42 AM

My work SW works only on Windows. my computer broke down. I went to bestbuy to buy a computer, Windows8 is the only thing available. I bought one, but I hated windows8 with a passion. it's the stupidest thing in computing. after a week of struggles, I returned the computer, and had to buy one from tigerdirect.com because they are still selling Win7 computers. I swore many years ago that I would never buy anything Microsoft that is new release. it's always problematic. and as a consumer I really do not have choices. Microsoft windows is my only choice since my work sw can run only on windows. I'm fine and satisfied with win7. it works, but it my only choice, and bestbuy and many major retailers denied me this choice.

I'm sure you are not the first person to feel this way. Ultimately it's up to the manufacturer as to what operating system is installed on their products.

WIFI in stores

I did a quick search of "WIFI in stores" and nothing came up.  I would like to see best buy implement wifi in their stores so customers can research items they want to purchase.

I always have reception issues inside Best Buy stores.

Best Buy needs to be the first place to get the newest and coolest tech, period.

For instance, when the Galaxy Note II was released on T-Mobile, I went out the day of release to the nearest T-Mobile store and bought it.  I had been waiting for months for it and wanted it as soon as it came out.  It has taken a while for any other stores that sell cell phones to have this phone available.  If it were available at Best Buy on the same day at the same price, I probably would've gone there to pick it up, but it was not available through BB until weeks, if not months, later.

A lot of people are looking at the new tech being shown off at CES right now.  Any of us who are wanting to purchase what we see will have to wait until it is available until we can purchase it.  However, if it were to come to BB on the launch date (or even a few days or a week before hand) anyone who can't wait to get their hands on it will come in to buy it.  I personally am interested in the Samsung Vacuum Tube Soundbar and am curious as to how it will sound compared to normal soundbars.  If BB had one set up in store at release (and advertised such) you would be able to get people in to check it out and purchase it right then if it is available at a competitive price.  It would be even better if you could work with some manufacturers (such as Samsung and Sony) to get the products in and available before the official release date.

Status: Acknowledged
I just read through a review of the Samsung Vacuum Tube Soundbar, and I have to agree it looks like an interesting product. I can assure you we do everything we can to get each product we decide to carry to the market as soon as it is possible. If an item is not being sold by us on the launch date it is most often not due to us choosing this. Thanks for sharing your voice on this subject.

Hey best buy I was just watching a video online from the Netherlands for this store bij SaWhere where they gave this guy 156 seconds to run the store and grab wthe he can. I thought this  would be excellent for BB PR. And who better to try this out than me? Call me BB I am here for ya!

I believe a customer of the Ellen DeGeneres show was given just this on Black Friday 2012 at one of our stores. Looked like a lot of fun. I can't imagine any customer disagreeing with this idea.

Match or beat any advertised item, if purchased a customer finds a better advertised price you will match it or beat it.

After all you do call yourselves best buy.  It would be nice if you could live up to your name.

Common marketing  first rule best price, best service  = the only place to shop. The store you can count on.

                                 thanks, hope you get it.

Serial numbers on receipts

Status: Acknowledged
by platoon on ‎12-20-2012 07:27 PM

I think that Best Buy should record all serial numbers of electronics being purchased or at least set a price amount. Wal-Mart does a great job with recording the serial number of their electronics. The serial number should be recorded regardless if a warranty is being purchase. This is for the protection of the customer as well as Best Buy. I recently had my house broken into and my flat screen was stolen I know who stole it but w/out the serial number I'm out a tv. I went to Best Buy to gather information on the tv. On the receipt there was no serial number I even had a 4yr warranty but they told me only after it got serviced that the serial would be recorded. AFTER Service. How will the store know which is the actual item the warranty is covering. Only until AFTER. Hmmm  Please help me convience Best buy to start implementing this procedure Please..

Status: Acknowledged
I have to be honest that I'm not sure if this would ever be possible. In my personal experience it is rare for the serial number of consumer electronics to be visible without opening up the packaging. We would never require a customer open their purchase before purchasing an item.

I would like to start by intrudicing myself, my name is Maria {removed per forum guidelines} and I'm from Miami, Fl.

My project is to help those children and adults with special needs get the technology and devices they need

that can help their daily lives and education.

No one should have to go without. Many children and adults can't afford the required technology, and it would be

beneficial for them. Many are students. Their are so many needs. Please help me make this project become a reality

our special needs children and adults get the technology they need.

As a company we partner with the United Way each year, and I believe the United Way has programs in place to assist individuals with special needs. Our stores are also empowered to make donations to groups in need of assistance.

Showrooming

Status: Acknowledged
by TampaMel on ‎12-11-2012 03:33 PM

To stop or limit showrooming, I would advertise that anyone going to a store to shop for an item can, if they wish, go to a Best Buy employee and get an online discount code.  This code would allow the buyer to get the item at the best price amoung a Best Buy list of other online sites.

For example, if someone is looking for a Flat Screen TV and goes into the store and gets the code, then if they go on line and say, Amazon, has that same item at a lower price, then the customer can get that item at that Amazon Price.

The requirements would be

1.  The customer must get the code while looking at items in a store.

2.  The list of online sites is controlled by Best Buy

3.  The item must be the standard price the item costs at other website

4.  The code should have a number of days limit, say, 2 days.

Something like this could prevent or limit showrooming since the customer would get the price that customer wants and have a physical location to get information and resolve issues (including returns). Even if the item would sell at a price lower than Best Buy might like, Best Buy would get the sale and not the other site.

Of course there could be other variations of this that might work.

Status: Acknowledged
This seems like it would be the same as just price-matching a select list of retailers online. If memory serves me there have been a number of ideas suggesting we price-match online retailers, and I believe we are currently running test to price-match specific products on specific websites right-now.

Manufacturer's already do this. The higher the refresh rate a TV has the less "lag" there will be when playing games or watching movies.

Please add additional information to the Store Pick online guide:

If you make a purchase online with a secure number (account number completely different than your credit card) than your credit card will not be sufficient identification when you pick up the item. You'll need to bring the receipt of your online purchase as proof; the rep will match the last 4 digits from the receipt to that of the item they're holding.

~The BB reps said that the receipt should be the email that they've sent you as confirmation. I didn't receive an email so I logged in to the BB website and pulled up my purchase. The receipt online worked ok.

If you change your mind in having someone to pick up or your order at the store you'll need to call customer service to make a note on the transaction. Calling the store that you've designated the pick up will not work (according to the BB rep).

If a third party is picking up the item that person will need to have the credit card the purchase was made on.

~I'm not sure if the online copy of the receipt will work in this case.

~~~Third try was a charm for my pick up. Good luck! :smileyhappy:
Improve shipping from bb online
As I have just experienced this and it seems to be a large topic in your forums of unhappy customers who experience shipping problems maybe reevaluating your shipping contracts would be a good idea as it goes now you handle the package ups handles the package ups mail innovations then USPS then consumer seems like too many hands in the cookie jar and not a far stretch to understand why so many customers are unhappy with the long shipping times and lost/damaged packages
with all the different stops a package must make your shipping times are double what the competitions are 3-4 days vs. 7-8 expected
