Trouble with itunes

Any ideas would be welcomes.  Had itunes on computer and one day I went to add some music to ipod and itunes had disappeared.  Tried to download again and the download worked but when it went to install it said quicktime failed to install and itunes won't work without it please try to download again.  I have dial up so download takes 6 hours.  Does anyone have ideas as to why I could install it once but now can't?

Re: Trouble with itunes

I would love help too...I tried to download the new version of iTunes after being prompted to do so.  In the middle of it, an AVG message showed that there was a virus ".....trojan horse small.BOG Detectd on Open".  So I cancelled the update, then the iTunes I already had would not open either due to some "....failed to register...." error message.  I tried to uninstall the iTunes and start over (where my music is - I don't know!!)  but I keep getting error messages.  Im really stuck and am thinking there's not a virus, but that AVG might be too sensitive to some file or another.  Anyone out there that can send me in the right direction???

Re: Trouble with itunes

Hello bardt01 and wbenet,

Apple has detailed instructions for uninstalling iTunes and Quicktime here.  I understand that long download times are frustrating, but I would recommend following these steps to remove the original installation from your system and then starting over from scratch.

When installing any new software on  your computer, it is strongly recommended that antivirus software be temporarily disabled for the duration of the installation.  Some components of software during installation may be erroneously identified as threatening by anti-virus programs resulting in an incomplete or corrupted installation.

iTunes creates a folder called iTunes within the Music folder of your computer.  You should find your media files inside the iTunes Music folder in this directory.

I hope this helps!

Re: Trouble with itunes

Thank you for the help.  I was able to get iTunes and my iPod back and working with this guidance and the Apple iTunes site.  I ended up with something called Uniblue that downloaded some time during the process and an error about CoreFoundation.dll file.  However, the iTunes installed so I'm crossing my fingers that these other 2 things wont haunt me in the future.  I really appreciate the help I received here!
