Hi,
I'd like to purchase something for my son with special needs (18). I need a large screen (at least 3.5"). I would like to download his existing DVDs on to this device, along with his CD music (they're all getting scratched and not working well from years of playing). I'd also like to download off the web short video clips and place it on this device. I'd love to be able to plug this thing in to a TV set and play the DVDs that I've placed on to the machine, too. Is there such a machine? And what is it called? I am not technically savvy (perhaps you've noticed!) so would love guidance. I'd also like this device to run on a rechargeable battery, for airplane trips (where power is not available).
Thank you for your help.

Hi oconnorcm3!
You're probably looking at something like Apple's iPod Touch or Microsoft's Zune HD. For the sake of thoroughness, I've commented below on each of your preferred specs. I hope this information helps!

I would like to download his existing DVDs on to this device, along with his CD music (they're all getting scratched and not working well from years of playing). Both devices would allow for movie and music playback. It would just be a matter of getting the movies into a format that the devices could play.
I'd also like to download off the web short video clips and place it on this device. Both have internet browsing capabilities and can play some videos such as those found on YouTube.
I'd love to be able to plug this thing in to a TV set and play the DVDs that I've placed on to the machine, too. Again, both can do this but the Zune HD is designed more specifically do accomplish it. You would just need to purchase an accessory:
Sync Dock for Select Zune MP3 Players
Composite A/V Cable for Apple iPod
Is there such a machine? And what is it called? I am not technically savvy (perhaps you've noticed!) so would love guidance. I'd also like this device to run on a rechargeable battery, for airplane trips (where power is not available). Both devices have rechargeable batteries. The iPod touch has up to 30 hours audio playback, up to 6 hours video playback (found here). The Zune HD has up to 33 hours (wireless off); video, up to 8.5 hours (found here).
Thank you for your help.
