NS-39DR510NA17 Roku Insignia TV Headphone issue -- what works?

My 95 year old father needs headphones to hear sound on TV.    Best Buy set up a wireless headphone going into his cable TV box via RCA cables --- there is then a wireless antenna to the headphones.

 

But the Roku "smart" side of the TV doesn't get sound from the headphones (Sony).

Troubleshooting there appear to be RCA "inputs" on the TV, but not RCA "output" (as there is on the cable box.  So I don't think the Sony headphones can work with the TV directly.

 

There is a digital output slot -- which these headphones can't use.

 

What wireless headphones can I get dad that will work with the TV -- preferably for the cable TV side and the smart side. . .  If that isn't possible, just headphones for the smart side would be OK -- he could continue to use the Sony for the TV side.

 

The Roku "private listening" via android phone won't work -- he is 95 and doesn't HAVE an android phone!  

 

Please, can you help me help my dad?

Listening via a pair of headphones is a popular choice for many of our older loved ones. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having difficulties connecting the pair you already have to your 39” TV to get sound from the TV’s Smart features. Thanks for joining our community for some advice on this matter!

 

Can you please share which pair of Sony headphones your dad uses? I’d be happy to review the manual to see if there’s an alternative way to connect it to the TV. The Insignia TV does have a  Headphone/Audio Out port that takes a 3.5 mm aux cord. Often times headphones that are intended to be used in combination with a TV will have an 3.55mm Aux connection option, and the RCA option too.

 

If the pair of Sony headphones don’t have the option to connect via a 3.5 mm aux cord our Insignia pair of Insignia™ - Over-the-Ear Wireless Headphones – Black does. I look forward to your reply to continue to helping you troubleshoot this issue.

Hi, problem solved!  From Amazon I purchased a $14 adapter.  There are various models, I got the Prozor Digital to Analog converter DAC to RCA. . . 

 

Since his Sony headphones use RCA cables and his new Insignia Roku TV doesn't have that -- this box converts the RCA analog to DAC Digital -- it has a digital optical audio out port.   

I just plugged the RCA plugs into it, and plugged the Digital Cable to the TV and the box. . . then used the USB cable (supplied) for power, connected to a USB on the TV.  Perfect sound!

Thank you Mariah.  My dad loves, loves, loves his new Insignia TV.  It is big and bright -- and now he can watch YouTube!   You've made a 95 year old man very happy!   Smiley Happy
