About Tech Connect For You
We started this blog in an effort to help us understand and use all these wonderful high tech gadgets and gizmos. For example, we’ll be blogging about mobile phones and, What's all this fuss about Smartphones? Perhaps you’re wondering about tablets and what you can do with them; eReaders is another topic we’ll explore. Along with that, we’ll talk in plain ol’ English about LCD vs. LED TVs. Of course, we’re open to your suggestions.

What’s puzzling you? This blog is for you and all of us who are technically challenged.

Welcome!

sm_Kjoneshicks.pngsm_Marti1.pngWelcome to Tech Connect for You. The idea behind this blog was to help demystify for you the gadgets and tools your friends and family (aka, kids and grandkids) know and use with aplomb. We’ll help detangle the connected technology (what does that mean anyway?)--including that new refrigerator with LCD screen, Android’s “Ice Cream Sandwich” operating system, your nephew’s latest X-Box game and that whole cloud computing thing. We’ll open the box, look under the hood and bring you up to speed, so you’re comfortable talking about and using the next greatest tech tool.

So grab your mouse, click when and where we tell you to.  And for goodness sake, let us know what works and doesn’t work for you.  This blog is for all the technologically challenged (including some of us).  Together we will work it out in plain ol’ English! Ready? Let’s do it!

My 3 girls, ages 7-9, have recently discovered popular music. I am concerned with the content of the radio stations that play the music as well as some of the lyrics themselves. So, I know longer want them to wake up to their clock radio anymore. I am looking for an alarm clock that may or may not have a radio, but one that does have the ability to connect to an ipod (preferably an ipod shuffle) which has popular songs that I have approved of. I cannot seem to find anything that fits all the criteria I want. Just when I think I have found something, I find out that the time display does not stay on or that it does not work with the ipod shuffle. Cost is also a factor since I would need 3 of them. Does anyone know if such a thing exists?

Hello JKKH,

Thank you for posting your inquiry. I've looked through our system and I see we do have docking stations for iPods. I think the biggest challenge will be finding one for the iPod Shuffle. Most of them are geared toward the Nano or Touch. I know a lot of kids that use their cell phones to wake up, but your girls are pretty young for that.

I did find one dock that will work, but again, it will have to be with a bigger iPod. The Shuffle will work, but it won't charge it, which is a good part of the docking station. Here's the link to the one I found without radio and a decent price point: http://bbyurl.us/whu. There are others on our website, I checked under Docking Stations and by price point.

I can appreciate your dilemma with this. Our kids grow up so quickly, it would be nice if we could let them be children for as long as possible. I hope this is of help to you. Please let me know if there's something further we can do to help.

Best regards,

Marti
