We started this blog in an effort to help us understand and use all these wonderful high tech gadgets and gizmos. For example, we’ll be blogging about mobile phones and, What's all this fuss about Smartphones? Perhaps you’re wondering about tablets and what you can do with them; eReaders is another topic we’ll explore. Along with that, we’ll talk in plain ol’ English about LCD vs. LED TVs. Of course, we’re open to your suggestions.

What’s puzzling you? This blog is for you and all of us who are technically challenged.

Here’s What I Know About….

“Geek Squad Tech Support and Guidance for AARP Members”

Geek Squad AARPRecently, Best Buy and Geek Squad partnered with AARP to help some of us more technically challenged folk with the issues we’re having in this fast moving electronic world. Here’s what I found out and what I thought you might be interested in.

Pre-Purchase Advice – There’s a dedicated 800# and a dedicated e-mail address that provides pre-purchase advice and product recommendation. Like, which do you buy for your grandkids? Xbox or PS3? What’s a DS game? Should I invest in a new computer, or a tablet? Can you tell me how to find a mobile phone that just lets me talk on the phone? Or maybe one of these Smart Phones? I’m just getting started here, folks…

Geek Squad also will setup and install software, hardware and 1 year subscription to AV software. There’s online help for everything from your printer to camera. These are dedicated Geek Squad Agents just for you!

When you come in to the store, you will again have help with diagnostic and repair, including virus and spyware removal and an annual computer tune-up. Geek Squad is also offering this same service online. How good is that?

Now for the cherries on top…Dedicated Agents (either online or on the phone) will train you in how to use those wonderful but complex devices, like a MP3, iPad, Digital camera and more. This I really like because I don’t quite get it when trying to understand the difference between MP3s and iPods. And cameras, while they might be easier overall, I don’t get the difference between SLR and DSLR or Point & Shoots. So much info…I need help!

And finally…you know all that old stuff sitting in the garage collecting major dust? Well, we want all that stuff. Regardless of where you bought it, Best Buy will help you trade-in or recycle your old products. From the beginning to the end…we have you covered!

Here’s a link to the site that has details about the one-, two- and three-year plans, and options for buying online, over the phone, or to print a coupon to buy in-store. The Tech Support and Guidance offer is exclusive to AARP members, as are discounts available on additional Geek Squad services. Take a look…and let me know what you think!`
