The lines and crowds will be smaller, but I expect people will be there are each store opening.  Just analyse the purchase trends.  Has there been a slow decline in iPad sales recent weeks?  I expect a demand spike next Friday.

OK.... make it simple.... the first one at each store can be "live-auctioned" to the crowds in line.  Or done Online to control the sanity.

Any additional models will be sold off based on a waitlist.  Consider taking a 50% deposit to make sure the customer is serious.  In addition to cameras, new cars are also sold in an orderly fashion.  Why not high demand electronics?

Well, you could send your idea to Best Buy, but then there's the fact that Apple price controls all their products. For lack of a better description, they have Best Buy by the balls. The kiosk with the Apple products myst be vaccumed around nightly and cleaned with THEIR choice of cleaning products or they pull the kiosk from the store. Apple is the boss. Best Buy is the middle man and really has no say in the matter. From a marketing perspective, they probably like the hype and the lines their product creates. People want what others don't have.
