Using a tablet as a phone

Are there apps available that would allow me to use a tablet as my cell phone?  I know I would have to have WiFi capabilities or some type of broadband access and will get that, but I would like to ditch my cell phone and use a tablet for incoming and outgoing calls as well as texting. Can someone help?

Skype.

 

Be aware that it is a battery hog.

If you have an android tablet then skype or Google talk is possible.

 

Google talk is my preference, espcially since I am one of those who uses the text messaging more than calling. Since it is a free service, you are only allowed so many "messages" for everyone you recieve. A good policy to avoid unncessary scamming. :cathappy:
