It makes sense if Apple told the stores they couldn't sell until that time to ensure everyone lines up with them first. Then when they run out they can aim people at the other stores. In other words, Apple wants to be the bully and get as much of everyones "launch money" as they can (sorry couldn't resist the pun
). Seriously though, how would a 5 PM launch work? I heard they did that for the 2... How early would they let people line up for that considering it's during business hours? I was planning to camp overnight but would that be necessary if the launch was at 5 PM?

Yup, the 5PM release is straight from Apple according to the BB employee I talked to.
Also, yeah, the iPad 2 went on sale at 5PM (everywhere, not just BB as it seems to be in this case). They should let people line up as early as possible (within reason, of course; like not in the middle of the night before the store opens); that's better anyways, since you can line up inside the store and not outside. As for when you should get there, unless you're in a major city (NYC, LA, SF, you know the rest), then camping overnight is just plain ridiculous lol. You should be alright if you get there 3 or so hours before they go on sale if you're in a smaller area.

Define smaller area, lol. I live in the metro detroit area, in the suburbs.

Well, that might call for a bit earlier arrival. Detroit isn't extremely huge, though; overnight camping still probably isn't necessary. 4-5 hours maybe. So, noon. I honestly can't see many people lining up that early on a Friday when most people will be at work.

True. I used a floating holiday to ensure I'd be off that day. Best case scenario, iPad, worst case scenario, 3 day weekend.

Apple has not told Best Buy what time they're allowed to sell the ipad, hence the lack of it's prescence in the ad... Having it in the ad would lead to slews of phone calls asking questions they cant answer (from the non-internet savy part of the population that relies on ads to find things out)
