hey guys i need a little help with my sony STR-DG820 receiver setup.
I just switched over from componenet/ optical to all HDMI.
Current setup is Pace Cable box (Comcast- DC-551PF) > Hdmi> Sony receiver STR-DG820> Hdmi> Panasonic 50" Plasma (TC-P50S2)
I use the receiver for all audio. No sound through tv speakers.
My Issue: When i startup the system the tv kicks on and the video signal blinks in and out for about 20 seconds before it finally settles. "HDMI" is blinking on the front of the receiver at this time as well.
Likewise at the same time i have zero audio out to my 2 bose bookshelf speakers which are wired properly into the "Front L/R" outputs in the back of the receiver.
I have double checked all connections and they are flowing corrrectly with no shorts.
I have reset the receiver to factory default and run the Auto Config with mic several times with the same result each time.
Does anyone have ideas for my issue with the blinking video signal? as well as help with the audio?
I feel like the audio is a setting i missed on the receiver. P.S. The cable box is correctly set to HDMI vid out and HDMI audio out.

It sounds like it could be a HDMI handshake issue, My other thought is possibly the receiver is trying to process the signal and is behind the cable box and TV. What order do you turn everything on. The cable box or the receiver should be first then the TV so the receiver has time to start inputing the signal to the TV from the cable box.

what is an hdmi handshake issue?
I use a harmony remote with one touch startup. It currently turns on the receiver>Cable> tv. in that order.
i messed around with it some more and discovered that if i run hdmi from cable box directly to tv it works fine with vid and audio. within thhe Cable box (Pace) settings the "audio out" has 3 options. HdMI, Dolby Digi, and other.
When i connect the setup as cable box>hdmi>receiver> hdmi> tv. the cable box will no longer give me an option to choose "HDMI" as the audio out option and limits me to Dolby D, and other. Likewise when i power off all 3 components and restart them in previously stated order, the picture shows up and blinks in and out for 20 seconds with the occasional scattered pixels colors and snow. There is also no audio during this time or once the video signal settles out and remains constant.
thankyou in advance for your help. Im decently tech savy and i am clueless as to the issue right now.

just googled the "handshake issue" and that is definitely what is going on right now. Thankyou for your help. Ill run through some power cycles to try and correct the issue. Do you know any easy ways to try and fix the handshake?

Try another HDMI cable or if you have another input on your TV or receiver. I guessing your receiver only has one input for the TV.
On your Harmony remote trying switching it to have the cable box come on first then the receiver.
