Re: smart tv vs. 3d tv

Well a 3D TV is a smart TV and has many of the same features as the so called SmartTV's just it has 3D capability. As far as which 3D is better that is HIGHLY debatable and depends on your needs.

LG make the best if you want a Passive 3D LCD Display.
Panasonic makes the best if you want a Active 3D Plasma Display
Samsung SmartTV's are known for their features.

Passives are great if you have multiple people that want to watch as the glasses are cheaper then active 3D glasses. Passive Glasses are also lighter. Downside is they don't have the picture quality of 3D Plasmas. Now some complain about flickering of active 3D glasses. The fact is not everyone notices flickering. I don't and I know a couple of people here have no complaints either but each person is different.

I left out Active 3D LCD displays because they are not worth it. they have several issues that makes me not recommend them.

So in the end I would say if you want a 3D TV that is cheap to add more glasses to incase a few friends come over to watch something then go with the LG Cinema View.

If you want the highest picture quality go with a 3D Plasma TV from Panasonic.

If you really dont care about 3D go with a TV that has the features you want. Samsung has some of the best features,

Re: smart tv vs. 3d tv

There are smart tvs that have no 3D feature but almost all 3D TVs have smart tv feature.

If you want both 3D and smart TV features, I recommend LG passive 3D TV line.

LG's passive 3D TVs have been recognized by both consumers and reviewers as the best 3D TV. Samsung makes good smart tvs but their 3d features aren't so great and LG passive 3D TVs have smart features as good as Samsung.

Re: smart tv vs. 3d tv

Well the "best 3D TV" part is usually debated. As I said in my post if you want the best picture quality your choice should be plasma but thye are active 3D. If you want something thats cheap and dont have to worry about if you are sensitive to flickering and dont mind the loss of resolution then yes go with the passive such as LG's. I will say LG has the best Passive 3D TV's but imho they do not have the best 3D TV's.

Re: smart tv vs. 3d tv

The best picture depends on what you watch most of the time.  If you watch broadcast material most of the time, then either plasma or LCD will do.  Both will exceed the black level and color gamut of any broadcast signal.

If you watch blu-ray, then there is some small advantage in black level for plasma, but for most people either plasma or LCD will do fine.

3D just happens to be the current gimmick (like 120Hz was a while ago), and will be replaced soon by "the next big thing", whatever that wil be.  I would not base my purchase on 3D performance, mainly because so many movies are not shot in 3D, and all current movies that are in 3D use the same old tired shots/effects over and over again ad nauseum.  Nothing new in any of them.   As of yet, there has not been a movie made that could only be made in 3D...

So, I recommend that you look for models in the size that you want, in the price range that you can afford, and simply pick the best of those based upon the features that you will use most often.  If you follow that simple principle, you'll find a TV that will make you  quite happy!
